After various false starts finally got to Morocco. Mostly walking in the Atlas (Fantastic)

To the point.
I hired a GS650 from Loc2Roues and did a mini trip out to Cascade D'Ouzoud and an overnight stay followed by a bit of an epic to Azilal, Bin El Ouidane reservoir, Ouaoizarht, Tilougguitte, Cathedral rocks and back to Marrakech. Brilliant ride but slightly overestimated my ability to make progress on the N8 against the setting sun.

Arrived back at Loc2Roues with SWMBO rather fatigued by about 9 hours on the back of a GS650.
The owner (Nouradine? my spelling) dropped what he was doing and drove us to our hotel in the heart of the medina despite horrendous local traffic.

Nice people, professional outfit and tidy bikes.

Would happily use them again :thumb

Oh yes, driving west in winter into the setting sun. LOL.

My own fault.keen to go as far as I could I assumed that national 8, a nice fat line on the map, would allow me 80-90kph average. The mix of fast stuff and donkey carts isn't quite as bad as India but gives it a run for its money.actual average was nearer 60kph and that was far from relaxing. Not helped by endless police checks. Turns out the king was meeting some big cheese in mkech so all out in force.

I need to go back and do the job properly. Riding has huge potential. Whole Berber culture has me captivated.Especially architecture and the sense of space. Feel the urge to cover the house in little holes and mud and buy some goats.

Noureddine is a great guy. he rents the bmw bikes under BM Attitude. used his rental agency twice in the last year. big thumbs up

Nigel and de crowe, can I ask a couple of questions? Were you offered fully comp insurance or only third party? Did you feel third party was enough? What was the indemnity if things went pear shaped? Did you try any other places, we have found rentalmotorbikes.com, palm bikes and leroc but cannot decide which one to go with, we thought hiring the xt250 would be big enough and thought the insurance would be straight forward but some seem to offer it and some dont, any help or advice would be great, even a rough map of where you went from marrakech or places you recommend would be a great help, cheers.

Hi Stevie
Bit slack on details like reading small print on insurance. The docs were all in French. Would have no problem in consulting with Noureddine at Loc2Roues and taking his advice.
I did however take out additional personal insurance for wife and self as most standard holiday cover is limited to bikes up to 125cc. Cost about £45.00 each for 2 days which I thought was expensive. However it was a last minute thought so little research went in to it. maybe there are better options.

Having said that, whilst riding in Mkesh itself needed a bit of care, non of it was in the same league as India so I wouldn't describe the risks as high. Probably stating the obvious but I would not ride at night.
