I think you will find that it was:-

BBC 2, Two Men in a Trench:- The Battle of the Big Guns: (1.04.04) Tony and Neil visit the giant gun emplacements built on either side of the Channel during World War II.

I remember seeing somthing similar myself and I am sure that it was that program

Have a look on 28 Days Later, there's a report on there about Wanstone battery which is one of the emplacements you mention. Also search for Lyddon Spout, another of the 'big guns' sites
