Lock available for the BMW Navigator IV/Zumo 660 Mount?

I may be getting ahead of the game here...

...but I'm thinking of getting a 2010 GSA...and then have the BMW mount fitted for the Zumo 660.

I'm led to believe that there isn't a method of locking the unit in place, into the BMW mount, and I'm worried about the danger of theft, and being dislodged during riding (pot-holes etc).

I'm just wondering if anyone has devised a method of securing the unit to the 'mount'?....or if there is an accessory available somewhere to buy?

I did try several searches

I'm not a great lover of sat navs...especially on a bike....but I'm being won over by the one in my car...but wondered if the worry of theft/loss out-weighed giving it a chance on the bike?

I had looked at that, but wasn't sure (I'm assuming not) if the BMW mount, the one with the large buttons on the left hand side, could be incorperated into that..or any other mount/lock?

I may have mis-led you here....the gps is the BMW navigator IV....which is a Zumo 660 I believe?

The mounts are certainly different between the BuMW version (extra buttons) and the vanilla Garmin kit.

Vis-a-vis the Garmin one, mine has never popped out, despite the bike being on its side and / or been banged around.

Vis-a-vis theft, does anyone know of anyone who has had their GPS stolen?

I don't, but I guess it's happened somewhere? It's easy enough to remove to pop into a tankbag or pannier (or carry) when parked up, making a security key all but irrelevant..... cue: "It's easy enough to remove, so someone will steal it".

I wonder how many owners actually used the fiddly Garmin security screw at all, but never lost their GPS?

Me? I would buy the vanilla Garmin version, as they are cheaper for the same base product. A non-branded version may be easier to sell on, too.

I'd also wondered if actually the GPS would be be stolen if left unattended, and I guess overall it is always going to be safer taken off and carried with you...but what about the times (maybe many ) that I forget?

As for the Garmin vs BMW aspect...I guess I was thinking that it was easier to have the plug and play item rather than the Zumo which may, I really don't know, take more to wire up?
The blurb on the Balderstones web-site suggest that the plug located around the radiator(?) can not be used for the Zumo any more?, and has to be wired direct to the battery with a fused supply....I know not exactly rocket science...but not as easy as one fitted when(if ) I pick the bike up.

As for value of the unit at re-sale, that wouldn't bother me, but obviously the Zumo is a more 'stand alone' package and so more easily sold...but I doubt I would, I would sell it with the bike.

Find a way to attach it to your keys - it'll make a nice keyring and if you forget and leave your keys on the bike...

.This may depend on if you ask a dealer or someone on here. The simplest and more expensive solution is to have the dealer fit for you.

The Zumo 660 requires 2 wires to be connected for power which can be:
1. piggy-backed on to an existing CAN-BUS accessory socket
2. connected to a spare accessory connector - there is the BMW part# for a connector somewhere on the site....

What you have more of: time and confidence or money...

Ah yes, the CAN-BUS has the wrong type of electricity...

It's down to how much current you want to draw through the different sockets. The zumo does not use much and the connectors are rated at least 5A.

Not questioning your wisdom...but why does the Zumo need two feeds, not just one power lead?

And I assume you are then suggesting that there is a two-into-one connector available from BMW that would then work from the one BMW socket?

I thought the connectors were the same between the R and F GS's (i have the F variety), but sure someone from the right side of the road will comment....

If you fancy a ride drop in to mine, and I'll wire it up on your bike for free.

To do a really tidy job with everything cabled beneath the panels and crimped ends on the battery will take about an hour.

Then you can keep sockets etc for other things.
