Searched cannot find!

Anyone tell me how to remove the locks from a 1200 adv topbox. The locks are open but no key.

Also going BMW rate for locks to be recoded?

Thanks

PB

ok,have you another key?the best way to get the barrel out is with the catch relaesed and the barrel locked,if you cant turn the barrel to the locked position try your key, with a bit of a jiggle it may turn.if it does you will then see the wafer at the end of the barrel that you push in pull the barrel out,
if the top box has the push in plastic dirt guards try using that as a key(trust me it may work do a search).if that doesnt work you can use a flattened spit pin bent to shape to reach round the barrel and by feel push the end wafer in,bit fiddely but ive done it a few times.if all that fails drill the fecker out and buy a new barrel kit from the dealer.
you can recode the key very easily prob with the wafers you have

Great reply, thanks. :thumb2

Yes i have my keys. To confirm the barrel can be pulled out in the locked position or open position it's just a matter of being able to depress the retaining wafer?

yes the barrel will come out either way but when you lock the barrel the end wafer is plainly visible on an east west plain if that makes sense,do try another key mind and the plastic thing these locks are not that good tbh,in the past ive used the wrong key with a little bit of force and it opens no prob, good luck.

Does this help ?? When/if you get a "key" in, it's #3 that you need to push in. Visible (from one side only) just behind the flats (when installed).

Update...Hey Para just seen where you are (look where I am too !!). I'm home most days, so if you want to PM me your address we can have a go at removing it together? I've got keys to try.

PB, locks are recoded using alternative tumblers - part 2 in the drawing. There's only 3 different ones available, clearly labelled 1,2 or 3. Swap them around and work out what you need to suit your ignition key and let me know - I have a load of spares. Your aim is to make the tumblers sit flat with the barrel when the key is inserted - and don't loose the springs!

Stu.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to reply, it is very much appreciated:thumb2

Jonny Biscuit, I am off work tomorrow, it's my intention to get the mrs to drop me off at Pidcocks where my bike is (just been serviced) sometime just before luchtime. I am then going to ride to Chesterfield to collect the top box which I have just bought (bolt it on there) and ride back via Clay Cross and Matlock.

Depending on time I will either farkle with it then or leave it till Saturday.

You are welcome to join me if you fancy a run out and coffee at mine.

I will pm you my details in any event.

Thanks again everyone.

Just a thought. If you can't lock/unlock the catches on the box, you'll not be able to secure it to yr bike "properly". Actually, I'm a little unclear whether you have a key for the new box/locks, or not ???
Unfortunately other plans tomorrow (Friday's my wife's day off) but Saturday's fine with me, or on your way home Fri., if you still want help.
Cheers. John
