R13GSA Rear racking Removal

Morning All,

I'm not going to be going down the R1300GS Adventure pannier route and hate the look of the aluminium rack, which I intend to remove, so I have a much cleaner look at the rear end.

Question - has anyone removed the said rear ali rack and if so were spacers needed to take up the space where the rack sits on the rear frame? if so were the spacers bought from BMW, if they do said spacers Or what size spacers were used?

But yourself a some aluminium round bar and make your own.

Failing workshop equipment to do that, you could always stack washers.

You could buy all the BMW parts. But it would be a right pain in the arse to work it out.

Hardware superstores often have useful spacers. Failing that Amazon is a treasure trove of useful stuff you just have to type in the appropriate key words. I bought a whole selection of spacers the other day.

Hi Locke,

Thank you for the info - out of interest what did you do to hide the unpainted bolt hole on the frame? I have a touch of OCD and that keeps catching my eye.

Yeah I had OCD about that at start, was going to paint, find tape or plastic cover, but to be honest I just put the bolts back in and not paying it much attention (so if you get a solution would be interested!). I've taken footpegs off as well so have a few more 'bald' bits!

For mine, i used some stainless 17mm nuts as spacers and some stainless suzuki disc bolts, hayabusa , bandit etc with a stainless flat washer to fill the vacant holes and create tie down points for my roll bag

Spray paint some large stainless washers and put the bolts back- that should cover any unpainted regions
