Locking or not locking fuel filler flap

Can anyone with keyless ride give me some pointers on the fuel filler flap please

With the bike running the flap is locked ( pointless really, as I'm with the bloody bike)

when i turn the bike off, and leave it, i can open the fuel filler flap, yet I'm way outside the allotted fill up window.

Thinking it was due to the key being close by, i popped it into the front room .

Nope still the same

I put the key in a farrady cage and tried again .... nope i can still open it

so i walked down to the bottomn of the garden / meadow and left the key in a farrady cage

nope i can still open the FFF

Thinking prhaps it was sue to the bike not being alarmed, i set the alarm put the keys in the garden and still i can open the FFF

all that happens is i get a flashing light on the Kombi

So is this normal? (seems odd if it is ) or am i going to get it to the dealer post lockdown

or is there an arcane resync/ lock process that needs doing

I think it's supposed to give a time window after turning off the bike for you to open the filler. As far as I know it shouldn't stay open indefinitely......

Think it gives a few minutes after you turn ignition off that allow you to open the fuel cap. Then it locks itself. If you wait to long to open it you need to switch the ignition on and off again to allow you to open it. Thats how it works on my bike.

I left it 4 hours and i could still open it.

i will have a look in daylight and see if i can see anything obvious

turned mine off at 18.00 tonight, key in bedroom.. alarm set as normal after a while... can't open the cap now...

FFS, read the fuckin manual. It’s exactly as Del Boy says. After turning the ign off you have a short time within which you can open the cap. Thank fuck I ditched my 1250 and went back to an XR with a proper key.

I've just been out to mine more out of boredom than anything else.

The manual says the fuel cap remains unlocked for 2 minutes after the ignition is switched off. After then if you try to open the filler cap the bike looks for the key before unlocking it (This is shown by the red light bottom LHS of your TFT lighting up as the bike searches for the key)

So I switched my ignition on, waited for it to complete the check cycle then switched it off again. I then tried the fuel cap and it unlocked. I then closed it

I then put the key inside my faraday pouch and waited for 3 minutes so I was outside the 2 minutes stated in the manual. When I tried to open the cap it wouldn't do so and the red light was illuminating up as it searched for but didn't find the key.

Edit: Been out again because I'm still bored and with the key out of the faraday pouch but in range with the ignition and steering lock both off the flap opens.

So looks like you have a problem, mind you I don't have the alarm as I had it on my 2015 GS and thought it was as much use as tits on a fish

Santa, what happens if you turn on the steering lock by holding down the button on the bike for a second or so until it clicks, confirming the steering is locked ? On my 1200GSA the fuel filler also locks a5 the same time.

Different bike obviously, mine being a K1600, but once I turn the ignition off I have 30 seconds to open the filler cap otherwise it’s locked.

Your on a short fuse lol, I'd step up the Valium if i were you

I did read the manual, hence i followed the instructions and then posted on here ... and just to update you, I've left the bike locked and alarmed for 12hrs and i can still open the

FFF straight away xx

Tried that steering lock works, but FFF still opens..

I think it may be an alignment / setting thing i noticed there is a little pin on the mech that if the mech is moved to a certain position, the pin moves up and the FFF cant be shut

i'll go and have a read of the reprom / haynes

Chances are it will be faulty,i had a problem with mine not opening and had it replaced. I always keep a torx driver in the topbox in case it happens again.

no worries, I went out armed with a box of matches and stood there and threatened the fecker... it called my bluff (bastid)

i had a clean of the mech with some WD40 and it seemed very stiff, after a couple of minutes back and forth, it seems to be working.

I'm off on a meds run in a bit so i will see if its working when i get back... if not it's going to the dealer when they reopen

If you have a Givi tank bag ring fitted overtightening the screws can cause the lock to jam.

I had a problem with mine a couple of times where it didn't lock but it was obvious in my case as it wasn't latching when closed and wasn't seating properly. I also found that by messing with the internal mechanism I could get it to latch. It seemed like the interlock pin wasn't retracting fully making it impossible to close properly. This was in hot weather and it never happened again while I had the bike. My dealer denied that there was a known issue, but I've read of many similar problems where dealers have replaced the complete assembly.

You may be right,

Ive just been out, and the fff opns with the bike running, it shouldnt

I need to have a look at how the mech works to understand it

I guess the locking pin is to stop the latch being depressed, but to do that the bar needs to move,

i think its the bar not moving, trouble is i dont want to be playing round with the fff on a hot day.


I'll havea look when it gets cooler, if not its off to the dealers
