I don’t use any thread locker.

Just clean up the threads and install to the specified torque and place a visible marker on the fastener and the casing.

I quick glance before every ride to check, they have never moved in all the years.

Thanks for the response.

I have seen that others have taken this approach. Would make life easier without having to faff around with heat guns etc.

As Ian has said, don’t use any locktite. I keep mine adjusted (if needed) through the wheel spokes so I don’t even need to take the wheel off, takes me 30 seconds :D

Ha - that's sold it for me - quick and simple!

When you service the bearings, if you find that they are worn out. You need to know that there are alternatives available rather than the standard OEM FAG bearings, which are very expensive for what they are.

Some people have fitted these to good effect. https://nushings.com/#/

Plus one for Nushings

Update on my progress.

Undid the lock ring which brought the pin with it. Separated them with some heat.

The bearings are notchy, are they shot?

Could I nip them up for now until I source some of the suggested nushings?

Top tip.

Used them to good effect on my R100 GSPD. :thumb2

Notchy bearings (brinnelling) are not bearings any more and may well stop rotating. This is a common problem with these bearings if they aren’t fitted and maintained correctly.

If the bearing stops moving, then the new bearing surface will be between your pins and where they mate with bearing inner race. As the bearings are hardened, this will induce wear in the pins.

I would wager that there are loads of bikes out there with brinnelled bearings unknown to the riders.

Your pins should not show any sign of wear, if they do then you know what has been happening.

Thanks for passing on this knowledge. :thumb2

I've ordered a Nushing which is on its way from the USA.

I'll update once fitted.

Thanks again for the advice and suggestions.
