So the idea is to take Mrs House and the rt1200 to Scotland for a few days in July. We plan arrive in Stranraer on a Thursday lunchtime and leave the following Tuesday morning. In between is decidedly blank at the moment which is where you fine people come in..
I'm looking for ideas as to where to go / stay - want to avoid bigger cities which can be ticked off with the help of mr o'leary and Ryanair.
As a rough idea we want to travel up towards loch lomand and maybe around and down to Campbeltown. Would prefer to stay in smaller hotels / inns and the like and as its her first time to spend more than a couple of days on the bike, the pace would need to be fairly relaxed - maybe 3 - 4 hours max per day.
All suggestion for routes / accommodation greatly appreciated!
Macker.

if you have a garmin pm me your email and i can send you some nice routes, consider skye, much nicer than Campbeltown which is a bit of a one horse town really.:beerjug:

You can hang a left just past Kenacraig ferry and pootle down the mostly single track east side road to Campbeltown then stop off for the night at the Putechan Hotel. That would be a gentle first day, especially if you took the ferries from Gourock to Dunoon then Potavadie to Tarbert.

Follow the coast, A77 then A78 to Gourock. Take the ferry to Dunoon.
Take the A815 north (lovely road), then to Oban.
Overnight in Oban (some nice little hotels and B&B's along the esplanade toward Ganavan).
Next day, ferry to Mull. Mooch around Mull making sure you visit Calgary Beach near Dervaig. Take a picnic. Maybe overnight somewhere on Mull.
Leave on ferry From Tobermoray to Kilchoan.
Hang a right onto B8007 and follow the length of the Ardnamurch peninsula. This is a gorgeous road.
When you meet the A861 head either left or right for Fort William (both ways have their merits.
Over night in Ft. William.
From Ft.William head south on A82 back through Oban, keep heading south to Lochgilphead then A83 to Tarbert. Just south of Tarbert, turn left onto the B8001 to Claonaig.
Ferry to Arron. Mooch around Arron & maybe overnight.
Get ferry from Broddick to Ardrossan.
Head south to Stranraer.

That's what I would do......

If money is no object

Yep. Nice wee birl around the south / central westernish parts. Head much further north than Fort Bill and you'll end up putting miles and stress on and not enjoy. Especially the missus. Leave the further north west for another time.

If you stop in Oban the Kimberly hotel is really good. Also the Lancaster which is on the front and though dated has a really nice swimming pool etc

The rooms in the Lancaster were very run down when I had the misfortune of stopping there with friends from the VFR Club in 2009. Decent breakfast and view from the dining room though.

The A816 from Lochgilphead is a brilliant road too and can easily be included in the route from the Dunoon ferry :thumby:
