Hi
I hope to get a 1200 gs next. But I only have abouy 5k to spend. Will it be possible to find a good clean bike for this price? I have seen a few on done deal but they have very mileage. Should i be concerned about clutch/gear boxes etc on these bikes?
Also if anyone is thinking of selling theirs could you let me know.

Thanks
P

Firstly, welcome to the nuthouse :beerjug:

they have very mileage.
What's high milage ? I've 82000km on an 09 GSA & she's still going strong ;)

Clutches & gearboxes aren't major issues. Although a bit agricultural the 'box is strong. Some of them suffer from fuel pump controller, ring antenna & drive shaft / bevel drive issues but they should be sorted on higher milage bikes.

I would not worry about milage at all. Condition is more important as is history. I had 92,000 km on my 1200 rt with no engine issues at all. I would rather a well minded high miler than a barley run in 5 year old bike. Mark in platinum motorcycle in Bray might have something that would suit you. His bikes are well sorted. JJH

Could you explain this to me? I would imagine drive shaft issues would be seriously expensive

Not really, if you take into consideration the cost of replacing chains and sprockets, anyway if you do get a 1200gs and the rear drive goes bang!! I have a rebuilt one sitting in my shed waiting for you to purchase it from me..

Oh welcome to the site and good look with your search.

Just to mention, I bought an almost new rear drive on ebay for €350.00

5K is not a bad budget!

You should get a good example for that money. Don't be nervous of going for a well minded older model or one with a few miles on it. If you're wary of the shaft drive assembly go for a bike from someone who will stand over it, like Mark in Platinum.

Thanks, Sounds like Platnium come highly recommended!

Where abouts are you? I was thinking of selling mine it's. 2007 72k fullbmwsh just had a major one done the condition is amazing you think it's done 20-30k by looks and ride, my mate guess mileage at 30k other day

Hi Neo,
I am in the midlands in Ireland. I assume your has 72k miles (i.e. no KM's). Do you have an email address I would like to know some more about your bike.

I know its not bad, Id love to have another 3 or 4 and pick up an adventure.
Id also be tempted by the 800gs, I havent ridden one, the reviews seem excellent, I deffo cant find one in my budget.

what you need is a 1150 GSA and in an amazing coincidence, I just happen to have a lovely one for sale ;)

Welcome.
I saw a 2004 R1200GS on done deal from a dealer for less than 4k euro. Search Donedeal for bmw R1200gs if it is still there it will pop up. good luck with your search.

for the cost of few pints the sub is very good and worht while

plus if you do sell your bike its feck all compared what will make on sale :)

I know people were saying dont mind high mileage but I think your is pushing it. Id find it hard to sell with over 100k miles in a year or two.
Thanks anyway.

No probs and good luck I am not to desperate to sell her anyway
