You can tell me to fook off and mind my own business,
But I wouldn’t touch an LC bike without a warranty.
A bike of that age/ price,I’d go jap.
Mike - I respect your authority and knowledge on the BM's but can I ask what you've found the issues to be on the LC please... I have my eyes on a 2015, 7,000 miler at present.

Cheers

Jim

I have just been to see a 2013 Honda ST1300 which I have put a deposit on. Back to something I know having had two previously.
Thanks for all the comments

I think the faults are fairly well documented in the LC sections,
But my experience,
Worn canshafts,
Seized and worn propshafts,
Final drives that cannot be repaired effectively due to unlisted/unavailable parts.
That’s before you get into excessive tech like flat screens etc etc,
All of this stuff will make the bike unrepairable once it’s ,let’s say 10 years old.
Same as cars, the manufacturers have turned them into “white goods”
To be disposed of rather than repaired.

Thanks Mike - very much appreciated... doesn't look like the RT is for me.

Exactly the reason why I’ve just bought a 2003 1150

I know what you mean about costs. Funnily enough, when my gs was nicked by scum, to reduce insurance premiums I got myself a 2007 Bandit 1250S. Dropped on a nice one.
I had looked at stuff on here but decided to make a break (maybe temporarily) and I'm pretty glad I did. Not that the gs was bad, except for the odd fail to start when hot issue, but the cost of stuff and servicing etc, was eye-watering at times: although Wollaston were fantastic. But, I had to travel 35 miles to my dealership.
OK, it's not the same as the beemer, but I'd forgotten what riding a low tech bike was like. One button changes the speedo to kph where I understand the workshop have to change the gs speedo (although I stand corrected if wrong).
Add soft luggage, touring screen, USB charger and a smile.
Plus I have a local dealer.
May well get the NT1100 next, we'll see.
Not bothered if its back to chain drive, see the costs for blown final drives, yikes!!

Not much wrong with a nice 1150 but it’s going to be 20 years old,
Read into that as you please👍
That’s a bonus
No electronic shite to endure
Properly sorted they’re fine (as you’ll know) and can cover ground as good as any other big bike (if outright speed isnt your bag)

Just to offer a bit of balance, my 2018 R1200R has just passed over 73000 miles and runs beautifully and all the tech works perfectly. Seems to me when used well and serviced regularly they are very reliable. Bonus points for being super easy to work on.

I'd be a bit more concerned on the newer models as they have even more tech and also a very nice but expensive TFT screen that could go wrong. I'd not be put off an LC RT, I see them all the time on the road so they can't be that bad.
