Looking for Hotel with Parking between Santander and Porto

There's the street. Enough room for everyone.
I couldn't give a shit about overnight parking in a carpark. The only reason anyone cares is because of the paranoid old farts on this forum banging on about secure parking.

OK

You’ve made your point.

Richard

You can specify that in Booking.com.
I've been in Spain for a month now, in various towns and cities and parked on the street with the Abus granite on the front wheel all the time. No problems.
Don’t rely on the parking filter in booking.com. We booked a place in Spain last year on that basis and the parking was in the street, 3 streets away.
Often it means nearby, which can be a 5-10 min walk, either in a paid public car park or on the street.
I always check by messaging or calling the property

Parador de Leon has gated parking. Lovely place with a lot of history and fine art. Not the cheapest though.

hotels.com and expedia (same company) are better in this respect as they often detail if there is public parking or private parking and any fee for each.
I also use Streetview to check access and the terrain. I have stayed in a few places where the hotel is in a very steep street which is okay for me but not suitable for a few in my group.

That's exactly what I was finding hence asking the question on here.
Doesn't have to be locked in a garage just a hotel carpark close to reception is usually sufficient. Just don't fancy leaving it in a side street somewhere.

I’m not home at the mo, but I’ll dig out notes from a couple of trips.

I’m like you, I want the bike to be safe. Last trip was on my HP2E and Mrs Berin on the basic- not easily replaceable and even if they were, who wants to deal with having a bike stolen on holiday.

I do park in the street sometimes, using the JB small towns philosophy but I’d rather avoid it as it’s too easy for someone to just tip the bike over.

I appreciate it could get nicked anyway but at least I’m minimising risk so I can enjoy my hols.

Very much appreciated, thank you.
Like you, just trying to minimise any risk.
Lad with us had his bike stolen from a hotel car park in France a few years back. Insurance, although paid out eventually were no help at the time. He managed to get himself and his gear including panniers back to Calais only to find out that no foot passengers were allowed. This was just after covid. He eventually had to get his wife to drive down from the North of England and cross the channel to collect him. It wasn't the cost or even having the bike nicked, although bad enough, it was just the hassle and time involved that was the problem.
You get a feeling how safe most places are when you park up but going on peoples recommendations just gives you a little more confidence.

I can recommend the Ibis Braganca, it does have secure parking Its a little walk to the centre of town. Stayed there before on our way to Porto

In Porto we stayed at the Ibis Porto Centro Cao Bento theres a public underground carpark next to it or we just parked the bikes in the foyer of the hotel in front of reception.

Toscana in potes is a good hotel parking outside but a steel fence to chain bikes to
Hotel Nordeste Shalom Braganca has underground car park but don’t have restaurant supermarket next door and cafe next dooorbut lots of choices locally with quirky menus!
Salamanca ibis has underground parking and a short walk to the square for many restaurants for all tastes

What have you settled on, please?
Hotel Ponferrada Plaza on the way down and Hotel O Abel Hotel in grimonde near Bragança on the way back.
Just waiting to hear back from one in Potes for the last night before the ferry. 😊👍

Thank you.

It’ll be great to hear what you make of all three, when the time comes.
Hi mate,
Just back from our trip and thought you might like an update on the hotels we used.
1. Hotel Ponferrada Plaza.
An easy 190 mile day from Santander through Potes and the Picos and we arrived at the hotel around 16:00 very hot! Very nice rooms and helpful staff. Secure underground parking cost us 9 Euros for all 4 bikes. A quick shower and into the bar for a cold one (or two) staff were super friendly. They serve food from 20:30 which was not only excellent but great value for money. Breakfast was great with a selection of hot and cold items. Cost was around £60 for a Double room inc. Breakfast.
2. Hotel O Abel in Gimonde just outside Braganca, Portugal
Lovely hotel with a fantastic restaurant attached. We were sent an entry code so we had access when we arrived. Undercover parking which had security cameras but the hotel is in a little quiet village so didn't feel at all worried about security. The staff were most helpful and directed us to a local bar where we spent a couple of hours before eating in the hotel at 20:30. The meal was fantastic and incredible value for money. Double room worked out at £57 inc. breakfast.
3. Hotel Penas Arriba which is around 7km outside of Potes. Very rural but also very secure. Nice hotel but not quite as welcoming as the other two. There is nowhere to walk to from the hotel so you are kind of stuck with what's on offer. It does have a bar and a restaurant which has a limited menu but was okay. A double room worked out at only £52 with breakfast so shouldn't really complain.

Overall all hotels offered good parking, rooms and catering. What more do you want :)
Hope this offers some help. Happy to answer any question if anyone is heading to Spain/Portugal.
