Not sure if anyone can help,,,im looking for an independent mechanic to fix an oil leak on the left hand cylinder on my GS before I go to a BMW dealer to be fleeced,,I live in Stourbridge, between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
Thank you

A photo would really help here...

Where is the leak coming from? What bike? What year?

Roger - in Stourbridge.....

Leaks from the LH cylinder can be a leak from the crank position sensor located on top of the engine front cover. The oil runs down and lands on the lower side. It happens when corrosion pushes the sensor O ring out of place. Whip off the alternator belt plastic cover and have a look with a small mirror.

If it's from the cylinder head, then the rocker cover seals may be the issue.

Can also be from the oil temperature sensor on the right hand top of engine block. The alloy sealing washer rots away with road salt, allowing oil to seep onto the top of the engine beneath the alternator and form an oil puddle. When on the sidestand it runs down the left side of the engine.
