investment

R80G/S will not go down in price... if you look after it.

Good one will be available for 6k.

Double that, and you could get a nice R90S, ...beautiful, fun, and a good investment.

or if you want real old school, look at a R60/2, or R69s..... kickstart only, and real old school charm IMHO.

Keep us informed what you go for.

Ok, I'll say it how it is.

Buy a bike for fun, great........invest some money into it and it may well repay you with more fun.

Buy a bike as an investment, and you're a banker (or something like that).

Buy an bike as an investment AND expect it to be fun, and you're a complete banker (or something like that)]

People who use 'bike' and 'investment' together in any sense other than improving it to be whatever a better bike for them means are faecal stains wishing to rise to the level in society of a particularly soggy fart in a very crowded lift.

Looking for investment and fun?

Fuck off :rob

My limited experience suggests that if you like the way one rides, (compared to 'normal' bikes, you'll enjoy most others.

The general feel, compared to most other bikes, of light steering, slow-revving and very friendly classic-ness seems totally common to both my airheads, despite an age range from 75 to 98 and a styling difference from R90s to R80GS Basic. I can't imagine any transferred DNA linking a CB750 to an Africa twin in the same way.

Despite 20 years of slow evolution, the engine and box feeling seems so similar from the early 70s to 1998 and the friendly power delivery, low CoG and slow gear change have been the abiding impression off all airheads I've ridden. (And the dreadful brakes).

As an investment, the thing I've noticed with olde triumphs is the 'nearly the same' effect, where the 'next best' model sits in the shadows nice-n-affordable, until all the 'legendary' ones have become really silly money, then the prices of the understudy go up dramatically.

On that basis, given the silly value already of a nice R90S, a great R100S for a third of the price would seem like an excellent bet for the future?

I can sell you a nice bicke you wont lose money on
and you will have plenty of fun but you will have to stretch
to £ 7000 and come to München for it not many poeplel have

I did the same thing just over 12 months ago and bought myself a r90s of 75 vintage in an just ok condition for 4k. Rode it for a while and liked it so much I bought another very early one with belonged to Lord Litchfield for 10k. However just beware these old Beemers are seductive and now I regularly ride the Litchfield bike and have started to restore the 75 bike.

SO MY ADVICE BUY ONE AND ENJOY USING AND LOOKING AT IT!!!

Different people like different bikes for different reasons.there is no 'best bike to buy'. I think that often it is what we associate the bike with that lights our fire. If you have particular things that you would like to associate the bike with, perhaps a favourite movie star ( Steve McQueen etc) or if your ole grandpappy rode something then I think a bike that is associated with those people will be a good start as you can imagine or feel connected with those people or things in some tangible way. Investing in a bike is probably not too sensible as you will probably get better returns from some offshore accounts. Another thing about a bike is the image it can project about you to those looking at you riding it or seeing it on your driveway, different bikes project different images so you can pick and choose amongst those if you fancy. There may even be a bike that looks good to your eye as a work of art and yet be a perfectly good ride. Its very much all down to your personality and what values you have.If you do go for a classic like the R60/2 etc you will have less fun if you are worried about scratching it and reducing the value of your investment, they are all fixable and can be restored to nearly new condition if that is important at a cost. Life is short, enjoy the pleasure of the bike for what it is and not for what it may become in the future because unfortunately none of us know how much time we have left.

Please remember the request!!!

Sorry if I've got an opinion :dabone
I still think the r90s is a good option and if you want some extra info send me a pm.
Sadly some people in this group are very different and intolerant -- motorbikes can be enjoyed in so many ways thankfully !!!!
Good luck with your search.

One thing having an opinion another being rude ignorant and abusive.

You're right...I was a bit OTT and I apologise for that.

I still find the concept of using a classic bike like this as an investment contrary to everything they should be about though, and rather sad.

Just purchased a R100 GS yesterday as a second bike for some fair weather ridng as well as hoping it gains in value. Whatever happens happens, if it does not, it does not matter because the enjoyment of riding is worth 100 more times than the poxy interests paid by the bank .....
