Maybe someone can help me out here... The area would be Farnham, or perhaps Gatwick..

I've recently gotten a chance to go sailing for a week with some UK friends.

The flight leaves Gatwick at 07:00 in the AM on Sunday Sept. 24th.

I've got to figure out how to get there, and I'd end up spending 20 hours or so at Gatwick if I flew... (hotel or sleep on the floor??)

But I was thinking that it could be an opportunity to come visit your Fair Isle.... I could bring my bike over on the 24th, see a bit.. Go on holiday... explore on the bike afterwards if the weather is nice.

The friend I'm traveling with does not have secure parking... He lives in Farnham.

So I'm looking for secure parking for a week in either Farnham area, or Gatwick.

Anyone have any ideas?

Parking is free for motorbikes at Gatwick. The duty Manager at Parking Express at Gatwick South terminal told me that. Anyway, bikes can get around the entry / exit barriers, so they dont even bother trying to charge.

check out www.baa.com and follow the parking links.

The direct tel # for Parking Express @ Gatwick South is 01293 502 896.

especially now you have told everyone its going to be there

True, but I'm not sure if it counts as being secure

Well its a manned 24x7 carpark with cctv and is on-airport (as opposed to a field miles away). Depends how far you want to take the meaning of secure... Lets face it, its highly unlikely its going to get lifted into a truck / van. Only real risk is ride-away, but 1 or 2 locks will sort that in addition to the steering lock and the chip thingy in the key.

Put it this way, I'd leave my 12GSA there with no worries at all whilst I was away for a couple of weeks.

And no I dont work for BAA or any car park...

Al,
I'm in Camberley about 9 miles from Farnham. Have got a double garage I could make a bit of space in. Local station (3 miles) goes direct into Gatwick. Could even manage a bed for the night either side of your trip.
Let me know if interested.
Regards
Matt

I've left my 1200 gs at Gatwick's N Terminal several times. Usually chain the bike to a post or similar and use a disc lock. As bike parking area is right by the entrance/exit and the 'office' theft would IMHO be risky. :)

Thanks for all the advice and reasurances about parking at Gatwick...

Matt, I've sent you a PM. :thumb

It's Secure

I park my bike at one of the London airports everyday and have left the bike over the weekend in the past and flown home. The carparks are manned 24/7 and are well lit. Also the bike park at Gatwick is next to the attendants cabin.
Take a lock and chain and fasten your bike to the rail and it's safe as houses.

If you're not sorted I could help.

Near Gatwick, garage parking -could probably shuffle bikes to make room for one more!

Anyone tried stanstead?

Stansted's not great really - the car park is miles away from the terminal, you park up and then you have to call the bus control depot to radio through to a bus driver then hope that he remembers to pick you up - I took the bike once, but ever since I've paid for the car space because it's more convenient, and there's less chance of you missing your flight.

If you don't find any alternatives, I can store your bike and your leathers etc at my storage centre in Farnham. It will be in a new container located within a secure compound cover by CCTV and access control. Give us a shout if it helps.

Yep and found it no problem when I left it for the weekend. The parking is in long term parking, car park A nearest to barrier and control. Take a chain and lock it to the rails and if you have a cover use that as most others do and it makes you less obvious.

Bus stop adjacent and you intercom to control and they make sure the bus stops to pick you up, when you get back just tell the bus driver to stop at car park A as no other passengers use that car park.

And unlike the car passengers you don't pay a penny for your parking. :thumb

After working through the costs.... I figure 101 euros for a plane ticket is a lot cheaper than I can ride over for... and I'm a tad busy at the end of September so I decided to buy a plane ticket...

But thanks for all the offers and suggestions everyone! It will likely come in handy in the future.
