Val, I have a twinmax, and I have a pair of the traditional gauges, you are welcome to borrow them any time, to see which you prefer, before buying a set.

Hi

I use Morgan Carbtune II and find it easy to use, effective, contains no mercury and I dont have to worry about getting fluids sucked up into the carbs.

Steve

Another vote for Carbtune although I have the Carbtune Pro, excellent bit of kit and takes a lot of abuse:thumb

OK the fact they are just down the road means I'm supporting local industry, and having met him a couple of times I can confirm Mr Morgan is a pretty nice guy! :D

I used a set of Morgan Carbtunes, on a Fazer 600 - they worked well, much easier than a pair of Davida Moto gauges on a Ducati Pantah...

er... does that help ?

what's the difference with a carbtune pro. just wondered, as i have the plain old carbtune.

i rate the carbtune as fairly accurate* and very robust and easy to use, much easier than a twinmax.

calibrated against a mercury carbtune and £1K souriau, it's slightly off, but near enough for most people.

I thinks it's just a different plastic case. I found the earlier version better at tickover though this may be down to the individual unit.

Lots of us have the home made manometers. work as well as anything you can buy and cost next to nothing to make http://www.airheads.org/content/view/183/98/

Can I just point out the only reason I have that model is it was the one made at the time of purchase nothing else, I had one years ago and always found it reliable so had no hesitation buying another.:D

I'm not knocking it all Roger, I have two sets (though one is living in Devon at the minute) of carbtunes. One of the older models and the latest Pro version.

I tried a hell of a lot of gauges before settling on the Carbtunes. I do miss my old Mercury filled gauges though :(

Thanks Rob :thumb2 some very interesting reading there.

Cheers Val.

Hi Val

I bought a set of those from the chap on ebay. Used the a few times now and very pleased with the results.

Sean

I've just spoke to a chap at work who has one of those £17 ebay ones like Sean he's very pleased with it and keeps it in his topbox.

I'm going to give the ebay set a try too. I couldn't get on with the carbtune set I bought (not the mercury one, the newer model with metal rods) but to be fair it might have needed some lubrication as one of the rods kept sticking.

got a pair of davida vacuum guages hav'nt used them yet any opinions?
sorry for the bump:D

Vacuum Gauges

I've had Davida gauges for years.
I have a four set that I used on Jap fours; obviously only use two on my beamers:augie
Brilliant. Had something in the 70s; cannot remember what. It was about 2 feet long, but the Davida certainly is better.
They are sensitive, but take your time and get it right.
Not the cheapest and probably no good if dropped, but they served me for 3 Bandits and my BMs:)
By the way, Davida has the best customer service I've experienced, very helpful.
Good luck
John
