Looking to order, question on current discounts

Read his posts in previous threads where he boasted huge discounts on a new bike.

So now I am saying support the comments with evidence

If its the one i remember the chap classes 10 percent discount as 10 percent off the PRE vat/PRE otr price......ie not 10 percent at all in most peoples calculations.

Let's bring some perspective and objectivity to this thread. Some contributors seem to be in denial and/or have the need to degrade the issue into taking positions rather than sharing views and knowledge. No problem.

Let's test some basic info.

What do posters think the Dealer margin is in percentage terms. This sets their ability to trade and haggle.

I say it is 14.5%

Thus turning a bike over , say, 5 times per year yields a healthy return on capital.........discount by 10% and the return is still OK especially as it is sitting in the warehouse.

Secondly how many of you are prepared to walk to test dealer resolve?

Yep Johnny like I didn't.

But that aside I've never had a bike which has lost so much value in the 1st year. To trade in for a V4 tuono £9000 for a s1000r £10,300 loss of £5000 and £4000 respectively which to me seems a little excesive.

You could always offset some of that loss by accepting my generous offer!

There's a line item stating the part ex value of the bike (from the Glass's guide) and then a separate line item stating special part ex allowance. It's a common way to discount a new bike without officially discounting the RRP.

These values were the same whether I took a TE from the showroom or a standard model (with the options I wanted) ordered from the factory.

Glass's Guide.....I know the sales guys have this but they keep it close to their chests. How can anyone see what's in it at the crucial negotiation stage? Is it on the web anywhere?

Back on subject - last November got circa 5% overall discount on my specail order "basic" with added ESA, heated grips and BM spot lights dealer fitted. No part ex and cash buyer. :)

If you read post 24, seems like you may have been able to squeeze a bit more though;)

So, what are you really saying??

The 2013 12GS WC has lost more individually(more than £5000 or £4000 respectively?)................ than the other 2 bikes in your example?

I can't think that, resale of a GS WC must be better than a Tuono

I must say Astle's Laceby BMW are sharpening their game, new staff & competively priced at the minute. (might be best to roll up to see what they've got)
Astles went downhill for me when they took over Harveys. Very poor part/ex's & always zero discount on new, and the staff were poor apart from Richard imho. So it's good to hear that things have changed, I might even pop in. Thanks for the heads up Phil.

No Johnny what I'm saying is that the aprilia dealer would give me £9000 for my GS as a trade in for the Tuono, BMW dealer where I bought the GS would give me £10,300 to trade in for the S1000R.

I don't think the dealer margins are that good more like
8 /10% they rely on finance products / after sales etc

That scenario happens quite often.

The aprilia dealer would trade it to the BMW dealer as he could not offer the same facilities like BZmW warranty etc

When I was in there a week or so ago, Chandlers Brighton had got a secondhand 2013 GS LC on the floor at £11750. So that gives an idea of where px values are going to be.

I see, still not a lot for a 11 month old bike though

Do yoiu just fancy a change or a you fed up with the GS?

£11750??...............Retail

As a p/x you can knock off at least £1000-£1500 if you trade in, so as Oil Trap has said he was offered £10300 for a 11 month old 3500 mile TE

More miles and you'll be sub £10k

The dealer will want to make at least £1000 to £1500 from the TE you're trading, he needs to make a profit:thumby:

You could sell the akra can on here and it will add £500 plus to your price , Nutty was selling a standard can if you dont have one to swap over.
