looks like I'll be coming back to the GS fold

….. always been made to feel like I should be grateful they are willing to let me in the showroom.
I know the feeling.
Yet, others I speak, with think he’s the best thing since sliced bread.
I can’t imagine how it goes so right for some people, whereas others 👎

It’s a tense experience buying a bike.

Especially if you’re a Yorkshireman like me.

Can go very right or very weird.

Barrie’s is good
Only family run (not corporate) solo Motorrad dealer left nowadays
He’s mellowed and they give tip top service
I bought a bike from him when he was in Fulford? Then on 2 other occasions have tried to buy from him, but just found him to obnoxious.
I was led to believe that he came very close to BMW pulling the plug on him because of his attitude.

He’s just a blunt Yorkshireman-thought you’d appreciate that 🤷😂🤩

Different staff nowadays though
His stepson is the Boss now and Kevin is great
Proper old school BMW bike dealer still

Have to admit, I steered away from Robsons for years listening to folk and being quite happy with Jeffries. Then Jeffries reopened having sold to Virtu and it just isn’t the kind of place I want to be in. I ventured over to Robsons for a key cutting this year, my first experience and they were fab. Even bumped into a mate and drank his coffee too. Dealt with Mr Robson himself and he is no ogre , just a Yorkshireman .

I rarely have a cup of tea or coffee when I'm out and about now. Not so bad when I get back to the table and can hold a cup with two hands but near impossible to carry a cup without spilling half of it.
Tommy Tippee is your friend.

Good luck with the new bike. These autos are a right result with your hand problem.

Wrinkly, Hi from New Zealand...

Also a V85TT and 13GS rider/owner, and currently waiting for my 8 month order for a ASA GS to arrive...
Had my current 13GS since Feb24, 10k kms and a dream to ride, but I did have a Honda Africa Twin DCT, Clutchless previously for 4 years, loved the twist and go as have aged tendons so clutch work around town becomes a big chore...
The BMW ASA system will improve over time and with software updates, as it evolves, meantime mine arrives early in the new year, so 5 weeks and counting...
Good luck and happy riding for you, hopefully all will be what you need/desire, as for cafe coffee/tea, get a travel mug, with a top on it, the cafes will fill that for you, then you can walk without loosing half of it, always use said mugs at home and out, and in the car :)
All the best... W

Many people don’t, JB - that’s the top and bottom. Some self-reflection goes a long way in life, as you’ll no doubt appreciate in your game.
We can all tell the difference between being a blunt Yorkshireman and being a less than customer-friendly obnoxious twat.
I suspect the latter was why - if rumours are true - the MoCo might have been piqued by said attitudes? That was certainly my experience.

I suspect the pressures of running a business didn’t sit well with the skill set needed to be dealership. You spend a lot of money buying a new motorcycle and the thought of having to put up with such attitude and shit if you have to return for any reason doesn’t inspire confidence.

Anyway, I wish the new empire well, but I wouldn’t return till the decks were cleared of any influence that may be lingering. And I suspect that goes for a lot of people with a similar experience to myself.

They do sell a lot of bikes so must be getting it right

Given their central location, think how many more could have been transacted with a different outlook.
As I said, good luck to them.
I used to think the same as you, 10-20 years ago
However in the last 10 years, it's really changed and is great

I watched some documetary on the shouty box - I think it was Trauma Room 1 about the Walton centre in Liverpool where they used some new high tech targeted radiotherapy I think it was on some poor bloke with tremors to zap a specific area deep in the brain that would otherwise be impossible to reach with quite amazing results. It reduced the tremor to almost nil in his one hand and he was hoping to get the other one treated at some stage.

They didn't sell 1 to me,back in June I spotted a great deal at Williams on a new XR with the m package so I thought rather than go to AJ's I'll try Robsons again.I was told they couldnt match the price as that particular spec was in very short supply ,I had a 13 month old S1000r to p/x and they offered me silly money for it.I emailed AJ's,matched the price ,offered me a £1000 more for the s1000 ,bike delivered on 8th July. They just can't match AJ's on price ,I have tried numerous times partly because it's a nicer ride to York than to Bingley 👍

Bingley?

After 55yrs of riding I'm not quite ready to give up yet.
You better learn how to check the oil level on the 1300GS....
67 opinions :D
