How many of you guys have lost a valve cover or even worse the whole head after a light crash?

Its my biggest fear of putting a GS down. I dont want to leave the engine behind.

Not heard of losing the whole head... so stop worrying about that... :thumb

Best way to prevent damage to the rocker cover is engine bars ;)

Those switches above the engine - are those MAF sensors? They tend to snap off too though. Anyways to protect them?

Touratech do bits to protect everything.. even stuff that doesn't need protecting :)

Too much Octane Booster!!!!!!!!!!!! :blast

BMW's have been making engines with the cylinders sticking out since the 1920's.

And it's not something that anyone really worries about. Except you :D

And if you did have a spectacular enough "OFF" to lose a cylinder, i think that would be the least of your worries.:D

Engine bars wil only protect the cylinder / Rocker cover from a light brush or a stationary drop. Any more than that and you'll lunch the rocker cover at least.

I had a 'discussion' with a wooden post whilst green laning, Bent the standard GSA bars (Made of Cheese) into the GSA cylinder protectors (Made of cheese) which in turn got pushed into the rocker cover (Made of cheese)

£450 later. All straight and dandy! :augie

I know of about 4 local guys who went down and ended up with half an engine. I dont know how hard they went down though...

It was just my concern though.

How do the krauser bars compare to the stock cheesy bars?

?

I've seen one engine lose a cylinder in 32 years. And that was because the bike hit a car coming the opposite way at very high speed.

It didnt just lose the cylinder, it ruined the whole bike. :D And the car...
