Loswering 1150 GSA - fitting standard GS Spring to GSA Shock

Hi Guys,

I want to lower my trusty 1150GSA as i'm starting struggle with the height (Old Age).

I have the standard GSA Shocks (which have been serviced not too long ago) and also a set of Standard GS Shocks (lower mileage)

I was thinking of swapping the springs over (as I have them) and fitting the GS Springs to the GSA, can this be done? and anyone had experiance replacing the springs?

Can you not just fit the standard seat (unless you have already) or have a custom seat made? It's only 20mm extra spring height on the GSA so a seat would be a compromise ..

Don't think you can just swap springs but you can complete units plus centre stand.

You may well be able to fit the standard GS springs to the GSA shocks but even if you can, it's not a particularly good idea. It will result in the shocks sitting at the wrong point in their travel for most of the time and that could, potentially, affect their performance.

Why don't you just fit the low mileage GS shocks to your GSA, no need to be swapping springs around.

Just to repeat more clearly than Ant1967 has.
You will need to swap the side and main stands to the GS ones if lowering the bike.

I know I need to fit the GS centre stand, I won't do the side stand, it leans over a lot all ready.
I was under the impression that the GSA had a different shock that controls both damping? Does feel more solid than the GS
But if fitting lower spring to the shock will cause issues then I'll re think

So these 30 mm lowering springs I see... they aren't actually shorter spring but spring that put sag lower down?

GSA shocks are the same but for the extra 25mm of travel.

It'll handle better on standard shocks imho. All my GS's have felt better than the high up GSA when 'pressing on'.

I fitted Nitrons to my GSA and spec'd them 10mm shorter which has found a good middle ground between off road ground clearance and handling.

I was under the impression that the rebound damping adjusted the damping at the same time on the GSA shocks that's why they are thicker at the bottom than the standard.
I found the GSA shock to feel better than the standard but then I guess each has there own preferences

If your interested and willing to pick them up. I have a set of Hyperpro purple springs, the 30mm lowered ones front and rear for the adventure. They are fitted to a pair of old naff shocks, but have only done about 100 miles on the bike.

I could not get on with them and as you have the same suspension travel. its a pain to put the bike on the original center stand as it sits lower, and with the standard GS stand both wheels are on the floor. Plus the rear shock lost its damping shortly after. I replaced them with Nitrons with standard GS travel. A far better option.
