My new 1200GS has just covered its first 200 miles. I am amazed at how much brake dust is coming off both the front and rear discs. Both alloy wheels have a coating as does part of the frame and front forks. Is this normal.

PS
I have not put it through any severe braking.

Bumpy, Thank christ its not just me. Lots of brake dust also. Seems to be another trait of the bike.

Had the same with mine, now just short of 6000 miles and no dust to speak of. Suspect it was just them bedding in.

Keep an eye on the pads. I hired a 1200GS in Barcelona during the summer and was warned it was fitted with brand new pads. My mate was on an identical hire bike with old pads. I noticed loads of dust on my wheels, whilst his was clean. 2000kms in 5 days and my pads were shot, his were fine. Both bikes did identical miles and mine was easier on the brakes.... My mate would be the 'comfort braker' of the 2 of us.
Ended up there is a duff batch doing the rounds, the hirer got a free service on the bike as a sorry from BMW.
