Many thanks for that- really appreciated.

I have topped up with the semi synthetic, so should be ok today. I have done about 1000 miles since the service, so probably just need to keep checking/topping up every 500-1000 miles until its properly run in!

My F800GS, which I traded in for the 12- used no oil at all...

Hi Adv 800

I know where did you go... Tricounty KTM. Don't worry you're not the only one that has been ignored when you arrived on BM. Sometimes they have good price on helmets and gear.
Well at least now you have enough oil to make a fried up. However give the dealer a call and have your bike checked, probably it's only a false contact on the sensor.

Exactly re: Tricountry...

Some lovely bikes and kit upstairs, treated my like a leper though...

Won't be buying a bike from there!

Got home, and topped up with pink Castrol GP! I threw some olive oil in there as well- to neutralise any free radicals.

Now I have a litre of the pink stuff strapped to the luggage rack, and my riders manual under the seat. Amazing preparation for the next time.

Carrying oil, topping it up... HARDCORE!

It's like when I used to have my old MG Metro!

Well you did buy an 'Adventure Bike' :augie

Hi Adv 800

Glad to hear that you made it. Did you call BMW? What they said?

I spoke to the dealer.

He reckoned, in the run in period- long motorway miles will go through oil pretty quickly, and despite the line being at the bottom of the circle there is still 3 litres left in the engine. The difference between the lines is half a litre. So I just need to keep topping up for the first few thousand miles- but it should 'settle down'...

Like I say, have strapped a litre on the bike and have ordered some from Opie- just to be prepared.

After my 600 mile service, I had a ride from London to Snowdon and back. About 800 miles in total- thats probably done the oil. My mates KTM, got back to london then decided to spew coolant over Chelsea... I guess the bimmer fared the better of the two...

:)

Stange, on my 07 GSA it didn't need topping up between the PDI to 600 miler and the 600 miler to the 6000 one. And still didn't need topping up when I sold it.

They all vary, my 08 GSA has used nearly a litre in the 2000 miles since the 600 mile service

Either that or the dealer skimped on the amount they put in when they serviced it!
