Hi there.
I bought a 2nd hand yellow 1150GS a couple of years ago, and love it! I now have only 42k on the clock.
Apart from the gearbox dying a while ago (oops!) and the BMW crash bar bending so I can't use the centre stand, it's just perfect.
QUESTION:
I want to buy two new Touratech 41L boxes on it, with the trim mounting from Touratech that is only 90cms wide.
BUT:
With the exhaust in the original position, they sell the left hand one with a 2 litre cut-out, losing valuable storage capacity.
So, I want to get CHASBIKES, my excellent London repair garage, to fit the full size boxes, having dropped the exhuast first.
How hard is it to drop the original exhaust, to fit under the full-size left hand box? Can I leave it to them, and can they use the original exhuast, or am I looking at a new exhaust sustem?
AND:
Will my existing 45L Givi top box still fit above the 2 new side boxes, or do I have to give it up? Maybe thinking of the XL Touratech top box. but it is quite a monster, and would rather keep the existing Givi if poss.
Also:
I'm tempted by the 45 litre big tank, but read that part of the petrol is left behind and not useable, and it seems a huge expense to pay, when I could bracket one or two of the 2L petrol cannisters to the boxes, and gain 4 litres on the original tank. Seems like a more sensible plan, since I can already get 200miles + on the highway to one tank.
Any feedback on either of the above (esp the first one) would be welcome.
I plan to go around France in August for a couple of weeks; my girlfriend has been on the back of the Beemer and also my other bike, a Yam 900 Diversion, and says she's not going unless we go on Pegasus (the Beemer).
So, I need to sort out the exhaust question in the next month or so.
Thanks!
James
