I sold my '03 1150 GSA a while back and missed it so much I had to replace it with another 1150 GSA although this one is an '04 model. Now this new one was previously owned by a guy who was about 6 foot three and I just tip the scales at 6 foot. On my old bike my feet could touch the ground but on this new one I am on tiptoes when stationary.
It does have a normal seat on it so that's not the cause.

My question is this: is there a way of lowering it a bit?

Cheers,

Phil

Put some standard 1150GS shocks on it Phil, that will knock a inch or two off. May need to swap out the centre stand, but that's straight forward.

Are they standard shocks or aftermarket fitted?
If aftermarket, you may be able to get them adjusted.

Low seat is ok, but not much padding.

Thanks Stu,

What I want to know is why would one GSA be higher than another? Can you adjust the rear shock down a bit to make it lower?

Im not familiar with this model, but can you not back off the preload on the rear shock a bit? (and maybe the front one as well)?

If you decided to go the Route of swapping for Stock GS Kit, I'd be interested in switching mine to GSA Spec

Hi Phil,

I bought a 1150GSA earlier this year and also found it to tall, so I went down the route of replacement shocks which are very easy to do, give a call to Jonathan at Rugged Roads who is very helpful.
After a few discussions with him he advised nitron shocks which are made for your weight and have found them to be perfect balance of price/quality.
I wanted to keep the look of the GSA so have stayed with the standard seat, but I had to change the side stand and centre stand over to the standard 1150GS. I had Bath Road BMW in Bristol do the centre stand as I did not have the tools to do the springs, I did want to keep the original side stand as with the new lower springs it was perfect, not to much leaning over but Bath Road said that they could not fit the original back so the side stand was replaced with the standard 1150 one.
Living with the bike and handling is now perfect.
Mine is a 2006 1150GSA with 27k if someone is interested in the old shocks for a decent price let me know, also have the old exhaust and cat which I removed to fit a Remus Y section and Remus end can.

I have a GS that has been converted into a GSA, at the moment the side stand has a hockey puck on it as it is the original and too short, I would be interested in your GSA side stand if you still have it? Thanks

How much do you want for the GSA Shocks Andrew?
I'd also be interested in the two Stands aswell at the right Price.
I have the opposite Problem, I'm 6' 4" and find the Std GS a little cramped.

Fitting GSA shocks won't stop you feeling cramped on the bike. Lowering pegs is what you need. (I know this because I've done the ohline GSA shocks conversion to mine then found the pegs actually made the difference)

Really?
Thanks for that Info.
I've already fitted Pan 1300 Pegs which has lowered them by about 25mm so maybe that's as good as I'm gonna get then.

Yes, changing the shock height does nothing apart from raise the bike. I'm also 6'4" and found that once I'd fitted corbin seats and the pegs lowered she's good for 300 miles before I get uncomfortable. (41l TT tank)
done 90K miles in the last 8 years on her and all good, though I'm looking at some anti vibration roxrisers to ease my carpel tunnel syndrome.

Sorry Phil for hyjacking your thread:rob
