On a bike... somewhere!
I'm looking at dropping the rear of my f800gs around 25mm with a lowering kit...

Two questions -

I was hoping to avoid fitting a lowering kit to the front. Any one any idea of what I could get away with doping the front forks through the yoke?

Is there alternative to the hyperpro shorter spring?

What's wrong with the hyperpro?

I've had it on mine for a few years / thousands of miles and it's good.

You can drop the forks through until they touch the bars.

a complete shock

I followed a thread possibly from adventure rider a couple of years back to lower an f8gs for my dad, which basically shaved a narrow section off the Base of the standard spring (too old & tight to buy a short hyperpro) & from memory I dropped the forks through the yokes about an inch Possibly? just to level it up. Wasn't used off road but went to Germany & back o.k, converted back to standard when he sold it

Regards AL

...forgot to say I've got a standard hyperpro rear on my F8 and to be honest I can't say I've noticed a difference but the front hyperpro springs (std) are a massive improvement to the soft diving front & if the shorter versions perform in the same way I'd say they're worth it:thumb2

I have lowered the forks through the Yokes on my F650 twin. No deterioration in handling that I can see. It turns in quicker, however it always was a quick steerer. This allowed me to drop rear with pre load. Net result a bike appx 1" lowe and also level. Theres another thread on here today where someones F8 has had the forks lowered

The alternative completely stock trick is to simply machine a new groove in the shock body half an inch higher. The height adjuster will then sit further up. Simple!

Hyperpro 35mm Lowering Kit

I finished fitting the front and rear Hyperpro 35mm lower springs to my 2014 800GS yesterday. It has changed it from a "just on the balls of my feet" to an almost flat-foot bike.I really couldn't be more pleased! I have a 30 inch inside leg and 5ft 7in height and having gone from an 1150GS to an 800GT (too set in my riding style) back to an 800GS having loved the 800 engine. I have become very aware of the fact that the 800GS is even taller than my old 1150GS and has just been taking the edge off my enjoyment, this should bring that back! I will report on riding it in the next couple of days.
I had the side-stand enlarger on it and found that it left the bike just a bit too vertical, but having now removed it, it is fine (and I shouldn't need a shorter stand).
P.S. I sat on a 1200 GSA with factory lowered suspension the other day and was impressed with being able to reach the ground easily on that!
