Lubricating exhaust flap

Mine was doing that last year. Just because its squeaking doesn't mean the interior is going bad, sometimes its just the outside spring. I took the cover off the top and sprayed the spring and cables with some graphite lube, that did the trick.

.

Thanks, spraying with WD40 stops it squeaking but obviously not for long. I've bought some high temperature grease spray I'll give the spring a good coating of that when I get chance.

Hi - do you mean the spring cables on the exhaust. Does anyone have a pic with a arrow for us thickos!

Thanks
Sorry for delay in replying been away.

If you remove the black plastic cover that sits over the exhaust flap held on by 2 screws, you will see it is operated by 2 cables shrouded on black plastic these can be unhooked from the flap actuator.

Then follow them forwards and just under the frame is a black plastic box about the size of a match box this is held on with 2 screws, you will also need to unclip the wiring which are 2 standard push fit connectors. inside it is the servo that operates the cables, the cables can be similarly unhooked. You can then re attach the servo, plug the wiring back in and the engine management system still sees the servo attached and working so no error codes but without the cables attached the flap just stays wide open.

Result: no squeaky exhaust flap, no risk of it sticking in the closed position , no error codes , easily reversed when selling the bike.

If you still need me to I will take some pictures.

So was mine and yes they exchanged the exhaust (not the end can) when mine wasn't working properly

very happy
Thanks for the reply. I’ve raised this with them as well, but they seem to be dismissing it, saying it isn’t seized and is just making noise.

They said mine was sticking (wouldn't take my word for it and stuck it on a diagnostic machine)

But once they did that changed without issue

Talk of lubricating sticky flaps and nobody has made any sexual innuendos.

Im so disappointed in you lot, i feel let down..

Have you tried turning the flap manually? Easy to do. Remove covers to get at it, loosen locknuts on two cables, unclip them from mechanism (note look carefully how they are inserted before you remove them). Then rotate by hand. If resistance or no smooth spring return, try some graphite spray and keep working it.

At least you’ll know.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to proceed with the "just the way it is" method and I'll also add a switchable ESE-SW.

Mines just been diagnosed as sticky/ stuck I'll order a new one and fit it over the summer
