hi folks

Does any one know where to get a cable lubricating tool
ive seen one somewhere that clamps onto the end of the cable
and you can pump oil in?

stevie

I think you'll find them in most of the catalogues (MPS Busters etc).

Beware of oiling cables on an oilhead, though. The throttle cables (not sure about 1100 clutch cable) are teflon lined and oil will just attract dirt and wear them out quicker.

If your cables are stiff, it's probably time to replace them. I did my throttle & fast idle cables last year and the difference it made was remarkable...

Any decent bike dealer`s 'parts and accessories' department should be able to get one for you...they`re almost certain not to have one in stock

I got one years ago from MPS mail order

To be honest though,it doesn`t fit BMW cables too well,so I now tape a bag to the 'high end' of the cables (or you can seal it with plasticene) to form a funnel.

Then I fill the funnel with a mix of 3-in-1 oil and engine oil and leave it to work its way to the lower end of the cable.

If you can take the cable off of the bike, you can put oil in the top and whirl it round in circles so that centrifugal force (yeah yeah) distributes the oil along the cable :D

I use

150mm length fuel pipe
shreader inner tube valve
2 cable ties or jubilee clips
3 in one oil
bicycle pump

add them all together, fill with oil and pump up pressure, you find not only does the oil fly through the inner cable it actually pushes out all the muck and grit particles aswell.
