Luggage lists.

Just been down to drop off my K1600GT at the Stealers.

While there, I had a proper look at the BMW ones. Helmet fits in left pannier and top box, build quality looks better than the ones they had on older models, they don't leave any scaffolding on the bike when taken off, you only need one key for everything, and you can make them slim when not in use.................. If only the buggers were top opening.

I'm just getting more confused.................... Oh, and I can't use Google either............................. lol.

Chopped in a 1600. Mistake number one. You ain't going Adventuring anywhere. BMW panniers, first on your list, I asssure you.

Chopped in a 1600............... Me or you ?.......... And why would it be a mistake ?

I'm not going adventuring................. Who say's ?............... You certainly got no say in it.

And I do believe it's my money and my choice......... I'll buy the panniers and top box that I think are fit for my bike.

If you have nothing constructive to contribute................................

'Would like to buy British made ones if possible.............. Feel a bit guilty buying a German bike when there is a British alternative.'

I don't think that there is a British alternative to this bike..period! So why worry?

I like the vario's they fit well, look good, very nice locking/fitting mechanisms and will do for most jobs. The bike still looks good when they are removed, I can shrink mine down if it's a long weekend away with my mates, and I can expand them out bigger if I'm away with my missus.
They won't take the falls like the Touratech and similar stuff, but if your not going the long way round or doing the serious off road stuff they will do the job quite well. No leaking issues with mine and I've been through some downpours.

I'm happy with my vario panniers, and have had them on all my GS's.:thumb The only slight annoyance is getting the pannier bags back in the panniers the morning after the night before, but jumping up and down on the bags outside a nice hotel is all part of the adventure.:D

Take less crap :)

Oh dear, he's a sensitive fellow.

Never mind, how are the votes going?

Three more for the Varios, emerging as a clear leader amongst the discerning (and let's hope adventurous) 1200 WC owners.

Pannier review follows:

Vern's Worldbeaters are the best.

End of review.

Me sensitive ?....... You obviously don't know me.

I just don't like bullying or snide remarks.

You are right on one thing though................ The varios are looking more of a front runner.

Two for Vern (He don't take no shite)

Now in second place behind Varios.

WARRANTY - A New Type of Aftercare from the Shed

There is no warranty at all on my worldbeater pannier systems, and I justify this in the following way.

I believe that the whole warranty system is flawed beyond belief. Anyone can say “my product has a twelve month warranty” which basically means their product only has to last a year, and they’re home and dry, and you are no longer their responsibility. Warranty’s are not worth the paper they are written on, and a warranty is no good to you, if you have a problem in the desert, or outback.

My pannier systems are built to last, I cannot see anyone having a problem with them at all, and I’m confident enough in my work, to stand by it.

All the welds are done by hand, instead of machine. A machine cannot instantly see a bad weld, or make minute adjustments all the time, it just welds, whereas a good welder has control over every aspect of the process.

I use the same process, making my panniers, as I have used and developed in over twenty years of metal fabrication, in the aircraft and motorsport trade. Again, what use is a warranty at 28,000 feet, or 200mph on a track. What would you prefer?

You can buy from Project VND, safe in the knowledge that none of my products carry a guarantee of any kind. A first if I’m not very much mistaken!

REPAIRS AND ALTERATIONS

Again, I believe this is another first for Project VND.

Before, If you had and accident, or your panniers got severely damaged in some way, all the other “pannier” making companies would do, is take money off you for a new set.

If you are unfortunate enough, to have a major “off”, and totally wreck your Worldbeaters, You can return them to me for repairs. I cannot honestly see either the hinges or the locking catches, being totally wrecked. If I can salvage just the hinges and catches from your panniers, then that’s £120uk that you won’t have to find for your replacement set. You would be amazed at what is salvageable.

I have had a car reverse into me, and quite badly bend in my one pannier. It took me about an hour to bring it back into shape, and is now still going strong. In fact, they are at present, on the back of an 1100GS, in South America, on a six month tour.

Also, if you decide at some stage that you want to change your system in some way, for example, fit lower or higher lids or change the colour, then that can be arranged as well. There really is no limit to what I can do for you. Just ask!

I've ordered Varios for mine as I only ride on the road and they don't act as a permanent air brake when unexpanded in day-to-day use. I can also easily filter past traffic when heading to an air show and then expand the panniers when I park up to store my helmet and jacket (5 second job).

As for top boxes, I ordered a nice Givi one and rack from Italy for less than £200 :thumb2

Besides opening up a whole new can of worms as to the (very real) security concerns over soft luggage; any soft luggage mishap might lead to the damage of any soft fruits carried. Take extra care when adventuring.

Putting such worries to one side for a moment, Ventura is excellent. Though I am not sure their fitting kits will be available for such a steed. Best to ask. Here's a link:

Oooooh....choices,choices,choices.

Decisions,decisions,decisions.

We await the verdict with bated breath.

Ten pages to go until......

"Now that I've got my panniers,do I leave them on or take them off overnight???" :D :D :D :augie

Speed and ease of attachment and detachment is an important consideration, highlighted in an earlier post. But thanks for the timely reminder.

It is of course worth considering whether the possibly ugly frames left behind overnight are indeed ugly, if it's dark and nobody can see them. Do more experienced forum members have a view?

Ah, one the advantages of soft luggage negates this decision making process as one would clearly have to remove them due to the already mentioned security issue.:thumb:D

Indeed.

One would think so.
