Evening all,

I need some advice......

I have just sold my 2014 1200GSA without the panniers and top box which i plan to use on its replacement.

They were supplied new with the bike but i have just remembered that the locks use the same key as the ignition. What do i do??

Getting another key cut to keep and use seems unethical, can you change all the locks and if so what sort of job is it to do and what about the cost??

Or.................. can i get locks that would use the key from the new bike??

Any help is much appreciated. :)

Changing the wafers in the locks is easy & very cheap to do so.

First step is to remove the lock barrels with your current key & remove the wafers. When you have your new Key, use your current wafer set to help code them. Ideal to have at least 4 wafers to prevent any key being able to open them.

Oh great, i can code the original locks to the new keys.

I'll have a look on you tube and get educated!!

Many thanks for the guidance.

And make sure you DONT LOOSE THE SPRINGS......little critters have a habit of disappearing into thin air......

Very easy to do if I can manage to do it any one can  and as other's have said don't loose the tiny springs as they have a mind of there own good luck 🤞.

Smear a bit of grease over the wafers to control the springs. Only needs a little bit to make the little buggers stay in place.

Poor feller,

He will be frightened too death now,
With a spring zinnging into the dark depths of a black hole......

yes, as all above its quite a straight forward job, my 13 year old son did mine to earn his pocket money........however, if you are buying the new bike at a dealership, they would do it in minutes .

Many thanks for all the advice, this could be comical................. i'm considering filming it!!!

I've got fingers like banana's and can't see past the end of my nose !! It will either end in smiles or being sectioned .

I'll let you all know how it goes

These guys will supply a key from the number for about £14. Even if you only use it until you get a new bike.

If you have sold and disposed of the bike hopefully all the locks on your luggage are unlocked.
If I'm not mistaken the original key is chipped so having a key that just opens auxiliary locks is probably not so unethical as it wont start the bike.

I’ve used their service for key cutting from a photo a couple of times. Excellent service.
