LUGGAGE OPTIONS

Because OE luggage is usually more expensive and not as good as the likes of Bumot or SW Motech.
In the case of BMW luggage it is also likely to be unavailable due to design flaws and recalls.
Thats what im asking. how is it better ?
Bearing in mind oe mounting, electrics, etc ?
None of my previous 26 years GS's had any issues? Are there issues with this latest set ?

No idea about the GSA but wasn’t the luggage for the 1300 withdrawn from sale for many months due to a design flaw ?
I’ve rarely gone with OE luggage. On both my KTM 1290s and Africa Twins I had Bumot luggage as it was much better quality and cheaper than OE stuff.
Plus when I changed bike I only had to get new pannier frames .
I can see why you want the OE stuff as BMW have rather forced your hand , fitting ridiculous mounting lugs etc .
Electrics ? More bollox we don’t need . Why do you want electrified panniers ? You going to carry a mini fridge in there ?

I buy the bike. And fit the luggage system that is designed to be fitted. The Adventure luggage IMHO is perfect. Solid and well built. My last LC adv ali luggage was the bare Ali stuff, and still looked new after 10 years, which i carried across to each bike after. I can see the argument for changing the mounting system on the new 13adv to fit the LC luggage. Cost.
Again you make the claim, its better. How ?
How is bumot better ?
If bumot or any other manufacturers were clearly "better" i would 100% use them. Lone Rider have just launched their new adv luggage. Looks great. Looks usable. However, again, these are a conversion kit, purposely designed to keep the LC mounting points. Again, for cost.
Charging. Each year im away, for the vast majorty between April and september. Extra charging points in the top box and left pannier are welcome.
A religious dance of battery cycles.
Phone
Drone
Tablet
Bed inflator
Watch
Laptop
Power bank
The extra charging ports are welcome. I understand that many will not require these, with their luna trips to Costas.

And this is why BMW sell bikes to punters that just tick every box and suck it all up .

But I am impressed that you carry your own bed .You do realise that some hotels include beds in their rooms . They also have sockets for plugging in stuff that needs charging 😜

I predominantly wild camp. I only use hotels if friends or family fly out to meet me somewhere. A shower, Or the weathers proper shite.
Bed - Big Agnes Boundary Delux 25x78.
And what is why "Punters tick all the boxes" ?

Makes perfect sense for those that camp .

The luggage debate seems to be a bit contentious .....I've always used the OEM luggage on the 4 or 5 GSA's I've had and by and large it's stood up very well to the bashing it gets. I carried the same luggage through on 3 bikes and would have kept them had the mounting points remained the same. Looking at the price of 3rd party options, by the time you factor in the new frame required there's not much difference in cost. Do I think having a USB charging point I the luggage is worthwhile? Absolutely! I do a bit of wild camping on trips across Spain and having the ability to charge or power devices in the panniers is a bonus.

All of that said, there still isn't black luggage in stock for the GSA which is a bit of a f@ck up by BMW in my opinion.

It is coming through now. A mate of mine now has his luggage, all in black.
I have been promised my luggage, top box and panniers in black, will be supplied with the bike on the 1st March. Key coded and placed back into their cardboard boxes !
Ill be very dissapointed if that isn't the case. Pun intended !

I’m still waiting for my panniers and top box. Did see Sycamore on eBay have silver panniers for sale est delivery showing 12th -17th Feb.

I’m interested in these, but struggling to find the part numbers for the frames to allow me to mount them on the standard r1300gs (it has vario pannier and top box mounts). I’m making the massive assumption that you can even do such a thing, like on the 1250.

Just checked mine. Part numbers for the cast alu brackets

Right side bracket 4654 7105 818 06
Centre piece 4654 7105 816 03
Left side bracket 4654 7105 817 ??
couldn’t see anymore/last two numbers for the left bracket.

From VIN decoder all I can see relating to brackets

X6080 Case Holder, Aluminium Case
X6090 Bracket F Top Case

Thanks. I was planning on ringing Sycamore to see if I needed to change the footpegs too.

I’ll update this thread if they are able to tell me, so hopefully others can find the info in the future

Isn't the frame different on the GS to the GSA?

Google says....

While the BMW R1300 GS and R1300 GSA share a similar basic frame, the key difference lies in the rear subframe, with the GSA having a heavier duty subframe designed to handle the larger fuel tank and increased luggage capacity required for adventure riding, making it structurally different from the standard GS's rear subframe; otherwise, the main frame components are largely the same across both models.

Key points about the frame differences:
  • Subframe:
The most significant difference is the GSA's reinforced rear subframe, built to carry heavier loads and larger luggage systems.

  • Fuel tank integration:
The GSA's larger fuel tank is directly integrated into the frame design, impacting the overall rear subframe structure.

  • Overall strength:
While the basic frame is similar, the GSA's frame is generally designed to be slightly stronger to handle the demands of off-road riding.

That's brilliant. I'm sure they'll sell well, especially given BMW supply issues on the panniers
Plus I bet they’re cheaper and better quality, given my experience of their panniers over the last 10 years or so.

Sadly they’ll be missing 20 USB charging points for those that spent so much on their awesome steed that they can’t afford a hotel or even a campsite pitch fee so have to resort to wild camping .

Wild ? I’d be fucking furious 😜
