Unfortunately we can’t simply remove the rear seats and ride solo on the new GS/GSA like we could on the previous ones because it leaves an unfinished opening. If you wish to do so BMW offers a luggage plate kit for $170. I think it is required fitment with the rally seat.
I purchased the kit when I bought my GSA and just got around to putting it on. I must say it’s nicely made, it consists of a rigid black plastic base which is securely bolted to where the grab handles were then a matching silver plastic cover with a tip-up access door which attaches to the base. It’s not difficult to put on but it took me maybe an hour so unfortunately it’s not something that just snaps on and off. As I only ride this bike solo I like being able to place my tail bag right behind my seat and the fact it sets lower than if on top of the passenger seat makes it a little easier to swing my leg over. Anyway I thought I’d share a couple pics.
