Luggage - what to buy?

A good recommendation there, Gaz :thumb2

Have you any pics of the securing method (box/frame) ?

I would have been tempted myself if they did them in a symetrical pattern, and could be bothered anodizing or painting the bare metal surfaces.

The idea of having bare aluminium alloy is just wrong.:rob

That's the problem.............. Aluminium Oxide is the protective coating. Polish/grind it off, and you start the whole process of corrosion again - until you have no base metal left :blast

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

so
if a yob saw my panniers
and spent ages cleaning them
would all the ali disappear
enabling him to knick the contents
back to the tesco bags and string then
anyone want a full set of BMW luggage £18.00 ono :jibber

Ok, it's an 1100 ...

... but the Jesse panniers look the biz, detach quickly, top-load, come pre-coated, are very robust, narrower than any others I've seen and were a bargain on here :thumb2

Another vote for Civils panniers. As Tuned In mentioned they are not quick release but if you are handy with a rachet then you can have them off in 10 minutes.

mmmmmmmmm

read the post
i will keep em clean and advise
thanks for the advice
if mine go
i know exactly where i will be going:mcgun

Just been quoted £310 for the Vario topbox and fittings by Coopers - sounds reasonable (or does it?)

Your photos are familiar, did you sell/buy your panniers on ebay recently?

I'd love a set of ally panniers but I have yet to find the holy grail of size, weight and fitment. I'm looking for panniers that are narrower than the varios on full width but not narrower than them set to 'small' that can be easily removed by me and no-one else and are top loaders.

I need to get up close and personal with a set I suppose.

Wondered if anyone has any ideas about Jesse Luggage systems. I think they look right and seem to hold loads more than the standard BMW stuff I have at the moment. I will now try to put in a picture.....:)

Not very secure... you can open these aparently with no tools:eek:

hi trev where are you in tyrone? i have the bm panniers which you could try out if you wanted to see what they're like. personally they're too big when expanded but feel free to contact me. you will need to suscribe £12 for the year well worth it as ou can pm everyone and buy and sell stuff and i mean anything! bought a new sky plus box for £50 recently as well as loads of toys for the GS. welcome and good luck, i'm in Omagh, cheers smally

I just got a 1200GS and got the dealer to fit the Vario Luggage to it, both sides and the top box. The exhaust side isn't cavernous by any stretch of the imagination but the other two boxes can easily accomodate a full face lid in them. Even the exhaust side is OK.

IMO they look the business, better than the Aluminium boxes but that's just my 2C. They're easy to get on and off, lock to the bike and are waterproof !

No, they aren't cheap but they are worth it IMO.

Good luck with whatever you get. Go with what you like the look of and will hold enough. Mine do, I wanted something to complement the bike and carry enough for me and my wife for a weeks touring (allowing her to take a few nice dresses :augie)

Matt

I agree Matt just bought the Vario ones on this site. I think they look the real deal. If they don't suit my touring need I can eaily sell them on and get something else.
