Has anyone here fitted a towbar to an 1150GS?

Am looking at options to increase the luggage carrying capability for next summer.

Have a look at them,I think they know most of the things you'll need to know.

I met a bloke a couple of yers ago with a trailer on an 1100RT,and the trailer set up was narrower than the stock plastic panniers.

Give me a bell if you're thinking of making one yourself,I'm always up for a challenge

Thought about it myself BUT the fly in the ointment is that once on the continent as far as the law is concerned you are the equivalent of a caravanner.
ie no outside lane on the autobahns and restricted to the same speeds as a car and caravan or car and trailer

seen a guy with one like these, looked ok, he used to keep beer in it and a fire basket with a bag of coal, was very popular on campsites

Depends where you are going, how long you plan to be away, and who you want to take with you!

That is the same here too, and of course we all travel at the posted speed limits when out and about

Here is the trailer I made a few years ago

I made it so it was narrower than the widest part of the bike, so it was still OK for filtering, used to pull it with an old iron head and a SD900

Am going to have to sort out a new trailer for the dog, and have found one plac who can make a towbar, but just wanted to get some ideas of good fixing points on the GS.

I've got a washing machine glass door if you want it so the dog can see all around.Worked a treat on a pannier some years ago

I quite like the idea of a trailer.. in preference to the more often seen big alu panniers...

this one... seems a similar idea to the american 'uni-go' - but is german. Ermax I believe. Would be interested to see how its coupled to the bike.

Once you turn yourself into some sort of train, you stop being a bike. Give me panniers and sensible packing any day. I find driving with a railer on the car a complete pain in the ar*e - I can only imagine it being worse on a bike.

Surely part of biking is about the dynamic experience and freedom of riding a bike? Trailers are for Yanks on Gold Wings.

I assume your bike could lie itself down just as easily with a trailer hitched. How would you lean to go round corners otherwise?

Edit: unless you mean that your GS would transform itself into a superlight 125 as soon as you remove your panniers....

I've seen lots of solos with trailers not too big a deal, all go round corners well, never had one though but for carrying camping gear abosolutly brilliant.
