What's the make of that tank bag Yoy? How is it held on, capacity, ease of removal etc?

On reflection I'm looking for a smallish tank bag. Something I can fit my camera, DVR, Passport, snub-nosed revolver and other essentials in.

It's a FAMSA with a custom baseplate for the Pegaso. Comes in Universal flavour, too. The base is strapped to the frame in varous places, and the bag zips/unzips from the baseplate, making it very easily for refuelling.

It takes a Nikon DSLR, 2 lenses, and other gubbins fitted into one of these and it fits exactly inside, obviating the need for an over-priced Touratack solution, but providing superb cossetted comfort and protection fora DSLR. I know you're taking the G10 this time, but...

From memory, it's about 15litres (maybe 18), has 2 external full length pockets, and a map pocket. I managed a Beretta and a week's supply of ammo in each, including dum-dums. Comes with a rain cover. Excellent quality. If they made a custom base for my SM, I'd have one. FAMSA also make the KTM OEM panniers I have.

The other HP2-owning luggage-emporium-owning chap we both know will point you in the right direction here. Great bloke, as you know. He is the God of Luggage.

I got one of the touratech Day Trip tank bags, big enough for your "camera, DVR, Passport, snub-nosed revolver and other essentials" as you live in Switzerland it may struggle to accommodate your wallet but it does come with a map pocket,held on with 2 clips at the front and velcro at the rear it's quick and easy to move for re-fuelling, not exactly cheap but I find it suits my needs and is not too bulky

Thanks 2WH. Still has that aftermarket look though and it's black which I worry about due to heat issues in sunlight.

Still toying with the idea of the original BMW HP2 bag. It's bigger than I'd like but isn't black and doesn't have straps all over the place, which gives it that "made for the bike" look, which of course it is.

Might work well with one of these tail packs

Now that I have decided to take the GSA I have some very firm ideas about luggage.

I'm not taking panniers and have removed the pannier frames. Bike looks much nicer now and doesn't look like I'm about to cross the Gobi Desert

So, it's BM GSA tankbag complete with Precision Navigation System Enclosure (map pocket) which I have already. Then I'm removing the passenger seat and will be fixing a nice bag to the exposed load area/rack. Nothing too floppy/wrinkly. Something like the Givi T339N but I'm not sure it's big enough.

T439 - Tail pack Roll bag in polyester with compression straps and shock cord. It can be easily fitted to the pillion seat with confortable adjustable velcro straps, that have special protections for the bike frame and bodywork. Characteristics CAPACITY 26>35 lt DIMENSIONS (wxdxh) 300 x 320 x 270>370 mm

Anyone seen/used one or suggest something similar?

Hmmm...size-wise, I have 45 litres of Kriega bags, which proved adequate for the 6 days to and from the RN the other week. They look proper S&M (or M&S ) and seem to do a good job and look reasonably good. It's either that, or my uber-gay KTM topbox Not one of my better purchases...

That's travelling as light as I've ever travelled, so I'm hoping it'll cope with this jaunt around the mountains. Seriously, the biggest space-taker is blinkin shoes! It's surprising how much room a pair of trainers takes up! WTF?

Why not have a word with Martin at www.windingroads.co.uk? I think he's on here somewhere, but an extremely helpful chap - I've bought loads from him over the past couple of years.

Personally, I think GIVI is, shall I say, a bit , but very well made and quality gear, and certainly does a good job.

I prefer the manly FAMSA stuff.

I think you're on the right lines, though.

You're right about shoes though. However, I am determined to travel light. The Givi does expand to 35L and my tank bag is over 20L. The problem is taking 2 jackets. The temperature variation last year was considerable - 8C to 34C during the day. I know of no jacket that can cope with that.

Maybe a long bag of some kind would do but has to be semi-rigid

in the greeney colour (pic 5). Which is quite nice, actually. Matching trewsers are on their way - didn't have pot-bellied-yoy size in stock .

The GIVI bag will probably do the job. Maybe have to resort to using a cargo net over it to hold spare jacket? Can't see what else would work

I'm convinced the Cayenne Pro will cope with that heat range pretty well.
