I am looking to buy a set of lugguage for my 1150gs i cant decide between the gobi or journey system has anyone got any pics of either of the systems on a bike that i could have a look at please

Those Gobi things look weird :eek

I notice you're in Chester - as motobiker says, it's got to be worth checking out Verns Worldbeaters (his workshop's also in Chester).

NB: I've no relationship with Vern (ooh 'er missus), just seen his stuff and read about it on here.

Trax

Cheers guys most helpfull i have since found out that the brackets are now available to mount the trax lugguage that seems very popular on the gs1200 anyone actualy fitted any ?

I bought the H&B Ali panniers which are great and easy to get off and put on without opening the lids.

Ive read alot of good reports on Verns panniers as well spread over the net so it depends what your after really.

I've got a Gobi top box and after a year of use it's about fecked. The locks are knackered and it rattles around like a really rattley thing. TBH I'm not impressed with the quality at all, the locks are pretty poor and the lid moves a bit on it's molded hinge so sometimes the clasp part of the lock assy doesn't locate without me giving the lid a nudge.
It'll be getting replaced with a proper ally one.

i had some trax panniers on my v strom, were excellent but early batches had a problem with sealant being applied wrong so they let in some water, mine did, but only a tea spoon or so.

Otherwise excellent, but i wouldnt want to have a crash with them, i think they would be wrecked, also the locks are a bit... poundsaver special.

Im about to buy a set of hepco ali ones, theyre cheaper and better!

o ec

Now i am totally confused, big investment and want to get it right , probably not the gobi as they look silly from the back and would seem to be a bit crappy , like the look of the trax but am told not as good as the Hepco and becker but they look more for sahara desert than scotland with the missis and hair dryer straighteners etc ,:nenauam going to have a chat with vern but they look bulky and not very pretty ! i have got the black bmw panniers so could just go for the big Hepco top box to go with them and save some dosh but they are not very big ,hard to cram stuff and it all falls out when you open them ,i used to be undecided now i am just not sure any more advise guys ?

does it not depend on what you're going to use them for?

The big aluminium cases are bolted onto the bike.. so it's not quite a simple matter to remove them. an up to 5 minute job - instead of 20 seconds - but on the flip side they're spacious/secure and will save the bike if it goes over.

I prefer the system cases because they're so easy on - easy off. They're fine for me as a single rider.. but with a demanding pillion - worthless. No way enough room for all those essential must haves.

stuff falls out of them because you're not using them as designed - suitcases. open a packed suitcase when its stood up and everything falls out. these are exactly the same. You can get inner bags if you want.

If you want large but not boxy cases - then GIVI or similar...

going to have a chat with vern but they look bulky and not very pretty !

Go over to his place and have a look mate, he does more than one size... they are far from bulky, they look absolutely great and more importantly they are reeeaaaally well made bits of kit. :thumb
