M’off…. Brittany calling yet again…

Out the terminal, onto southbound A16 and come off 1km later at Coquelles.

Upon entering the village, at the roundabout they have a monument (if you like) on it. A great lump of metal that is the front end of the TBM that had snaked its way under the La Manche, creating the tunnels that I had used this morning to cross over into France.
I did fail to pull over somewhere safely to take a picture, so here is one curtesy of Google.

Following on, a village of Sangatte, “feels good to be back 😝” it is a joke Arsey and I share. 🤣

Couldn’t be bothered walking to take a leak on the train, so what better place to stop for one with a view like this, just outside of Sangatte.

Look closer and those are the White Cliffs of Dover.

Pulled into the village of Framezelle* at a @Wapping favourite.

At 08:30 it did not look open to me, so I rode on, to the carpark of Cap Griz-Nez.
I come prepared. I do learn from me Northern Friend @Doc

I can ride this section of road every day and have a goggle doing it.

Nowt like a roadside picnic Ev.

Made it to Dieppe. Stopped here for lunch.

Average moving speed is a bit slower than one thought it be, might have to cut some bits out from my route, if I am to have dinner in St. Malo before meeting Captain outside of port gates by 21:30. I recon it’ll take him 15 minutes minimum to get of the boat and clear customs.

Right, where was I…

Leaving Cap Gris-Nez I noticed Museum of Atlantic Wall. It was still shut so no entry. Took some pickies.

Blurb…. “The museum 'Musée du Mur de l'Atlantique Batterie TODT'Battery Todt is a coastal battery built by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. The complex was built by Organisation Todt, near the French village of Audinghen, on the Channel at Cap Gris-Nez in the department of Pas-de-Calais. It was part of the Atlantic Wall and the armament consisted of four cannons with a calibre of 38 centimetres. The maximum range was 55 kilometres and the shells could reach England.”

Opening times, if anybody want to visit.

A random monument and (assuming) a statue of Napoleon. Weirdly across the road from travelers site.

Fort Mahon in Ambleteuse

Blurb:
“Built by Vauban in the seventeenth century, Fort Mahon is now classified as a historic monument and is located at the mouth of the Slack and was intended to protect a naval port. During the Second World War it was used by the Nazis as a prison for forced laborers. At the center is a gun tower which is protected on the seaward side by a horseshoe-shaped defensive wall.”

Not the best pictures, as I did not want to disturb local Gendarmes on operation Stalk/Overwatch :nenau. Presumably helping the small boat people on their merry way to Blighty. Scrub that. This thread isn’t for politics.

I later on came across this cemetery looking to be mainly WW 1 British troops. The sheer scale of it is huge. Well maintained and looked after. Had to pull over to have a look and take some pickies.

Whilst I was wandering about the place, this nosy behemoth flew over in the distance. You could hear it before you could see it, so I was prepared for it

IMG_6138.jpeg

I later seen it again parked up, not sure if it is same aircraft though, certainly same type.

Then lunch has arrived. It was very tasty, however I was expecting for Spinach and mock Salmon lasagne to be a bit more fresh. I don’t think it was made today. Shame despite tasting very good.
Everything else was great.

A quick oat milk coffee and I must press on…

Brilliant..!! You two are like an Ant or Dec double act 🤣

It’s bizarre, that I just arrived in Dieppe this morning and we had an amazing lunch in Saumur. Now at a gite in Aulnay for 8 days before we head to Finistère for 5 days, then back home via Dieppe again.
