M’off…. Normandy, with Lloyd’s of Luncheon Motor Club

Day three.

In the morning, we visited the Bayeux cemetery.

When looking at all the ‘fighting regiments’ graves, it’s easy to forget that not everyone was always a ‘soldier’, in the pure ‘fighting’ sense. They too died and, without them, battles could not be fought or won.

The cemetery was the last site on the tour’s itinerary, so we broke up from there.

I along with some others went into Bayeux for a coffee and a look around.

Do you know your gargoyles from your grotesques?

All in all, a great long weekend.

Did we see it all? No, but just the ‘War beaches’ alone cover a sea frontage of about 100 miles. The highlight? Besides the good company, the new British memorial and the steel cut-out figures. Well worth a look on their own.

A downside….. Normandy has discovered ‘le speed hump’ in towns and villages. Some are doubtless repurposed tank traps. I’m surprised I have any front spoiler left.

PS In Honfleur, I stayed in an eccentric hotel, 10 minutes walk from the centre of town. It was good.

Thanks for posting Wapping, a long time since I was over there but a good reminder to go back as there more to see…

Thank you.

I believe that the Bayeux cemetery we visited on the last day, has also had a complete make-over in the last year or so.
