M’off….. Spa WEC six-hour race

I shall be at Spa again, for the 24-hour GT race, at the end of June.

I / we are doing the WEC 6-hour and the 24-hour races, by way of a try-out to see if either or both would make a good alternative to Le Mans. After so many years of our pilgrimages to Le Mans, the whole thing is becoming vastly corporate, as so many big sporting events eventually do. It’s losing some of its appeal, for sure.

The Spa 24 is the maddest event I've ever officiated at!

60 cars sharing 7,001 metres of track should be OK but they always seem to want the same piece at the same time!

Then there's the weather...!

On the Wednesday before the race, there is a parade of all the cars from the circuit to Spa town (about 12kms). That's definitely worth going to - you can get up close and personal with the cars AND the drivers.

I'll probably get there during the lunch break.
I've been up since 5.30am. And the same yesterday.

I'm camping in the paddock in my motorhome.

Yesterday, some wank*r with a loud Harley arrived and woke the whole paddock at 5.30am

This morning it was a quad bike.

Wank*rs to a man!

Race 2 starting at 15.45hrs

Livestream from 15.15hrs
Apart from two cars travelling side by side out of the pit lane it was quite uneventful. I noticed that a couple of cars that were given drive through penalties totally ignored them, have the race officials considered Stingers to assert their decisions?

All being dealt with now...

Rossi certainly brought the bike racing crowds in to the GT racing scene, I remember when he first drove at Brands there were hundreds of people with '#46' lime green hats, t-shirts and flags dotted all round the circuit.

If it's anything like ours, the gauges are useless!

It’s certainly useless when it doesn’t work.

In ‘Engineer set-up’ mode the depth gauge is meant to read 0.7V. Mine is reading 0.03V and I can’t find a way to recalibrate it.

The work around is to turn the tank’s depth gauge off entirely. The pump will then run on demand, when a tap is opened. I just have to make sure the tank is not empty or I’ll burn the pump out.

It’s a very small world.

My neighbour from six doors down in Wapping, has arrived in the pitch next to ours.
Is that him who you shared the chocolate orange with.
