M8 owners please read.

Looks like mine has the breather fitted, phew

Sorry to read about your bike Flipfly, lovely looker, especially liked that seat with backrest :thumb

Guys, mine had the breather fitted, don’t count ya chickens, keep an eye on that gearbox oil level

Does the primary drive/gearbox oil thing affect all M8s or is it just the touring models?

I know the engine sumping issue is touring only (sumps are different from the Softail), but I think the primary and gearbox are common.

From what I can see it’s the Touring Models with Hydraulic clutch.

Just the touring models afaik. Sumping can also happen to m8 softails.

Oh, of course!

Though why the actuation mechanism should make any different, I'm not sure.

From memory the M8 engines although only on the market for 4 years now, are already on their fifth oil pump variation/improvement.

2021 Road King has gone back to Cable Clutch,…

You can sort out any oil pump issues with a full Cam chest upgrade Si (but you knew that already ;) :D)

I know a wealthy individual who needs a Kidney? - I could hook you up?

Folks… a note of caution… do not see this breather and think it was a the “mod”. It is not, it’s a gearbox breather. The space where the primary breather should be fitted is here….

Oh blimey! If I've read things correctly then Jon, it means that Phil's bike didn't have the Primary Breather mod done?

Sadly, that doesn't change the end result for Phil, but at least it provides some reassurance to those of us who have M8s and have had the primary mod completed.

As I'm a bit mechanically thick, I want to be absolutely certain that I am looking at the right thing, so I've just been to the garage and a made a somewhat feeble attempt to take pictures of what I hope is the right bit of breather tube.

The third pic shows the location compared to the Primary/Derby cover
The others hopefully show that it comes off the back wall of the Primary, does a 90 turn upwards and has a swan neck. It normally just sits tucked away up against the frame - I've just pulled it out a bit to try and show what it looks like.

Fingers cross this is the right thing, and before anyone says anything yes I know the bike is filthy!
