Out of interest Si what type of warranty did the dealer give you when they sold the bike ?

Can you take the bike to an H-D dealer for repair (and will the warranty company pick up the complete tab) or is it back to the supplying dealer type ?

Having not had to test it, I don't know, and having just looked at the existing 6 month warranty, it doesn't say. I guess, you would just negotiate with the supplying dealer (should the need to arise), as to the easiest , most cost effective solution.

Be careful Si ... You really do need to get this confirmed !

A lot of dealers will offer you a dealer backed warranty which can mean if you have an issue it has to go back to the supplying dealer. Not a problem if the dealer is local but a real issue if the dealer is many miles away or (in your case) Northern Ireland

Some warranty companies will not pay the dealer hourly rate and have preferred dealers they use. If you want a Harley dealer to look at your faulty bike the warranty company may not pay the diagnosis time and may then only pay an hourly rate of £50 and you could end up being left to pay the difference should the dealer be charging more which a Harley dealer will :blast

Best get these things clarified before you agree to accepting anything :thumb

Yes, thanks. They are sending it all in writing with a particular reference to the transmission, with an increased limit that would, in effect, pay for a whole new gearbox should it be necessary.

On the issue of oil transfer, would just checking the gearbox level be enough? I was just thinking if it’s a transfer of oil from gearbox to primary, or vice-versa, just checking the one level should be enough.

Once you have ascertained that the oil is transferring from the gearbox to the primary (as opposed to the floor) yes, because it's easier.

Yes, all I am going to do is regularly monitor the gearbox oil as that is a 2 min job with the dipstick. If it drops by much, I’ll then go look at the primary level to see if it has transferred over.

Thanks. That's what I thought.
