I have a MaC Book Pro, bought Oct 2011. I have noticed recently that the base of the lappy gets rather hot, actually i'd say very hot, there doesn't seem to be any ventilation areas in the case? is this normal. I'm also getting the coloured circle thing and the lappy freezing fairly often, sometimes when i have a few windows open but others when only mail and Safari (with numerous tabs). I thought MAC's were the dogs dangles but this one is starting to pi55 me off at the moment! Is there anything that can be run to clean it up of any shote that has been loaded or whatever?
I have downloaded a few things via torrents and have loaded a copy of Aperture from said site, again could this have caused issues?

I've run MAC Keper and its come back with the following that needs payment to clear (I assume this is a bit like other software for Windows and is really a rip off?)

Any help appreciated:

they do run surprisingly hot, but i'm wondering if there's something running hard in the background on yours.

open Activity Monitor (cmd+space, type act into Spotlight. click Activity Monitor).

see if there's anything running that's hogging the CPU. nothing should be much more than about 10% for very long, although Safari can spike up quite high.

Are you running Windoze on it at the same time? If so, it's very power hungry.

A MacBook Air for example will reducebattery life to 1/3 of its optimum if Windoze is running and other MS apps (for Mac) at the same time. Also gets very hot.

I find mine runs particularly hot when watching video.......Youtube etc.

If you look at the rear of the base where it meets the rear of the lid (behind the black hinge) you will see a 'vent' which gets rid of a lot of the hot air. If it gets hot you can sometimes hear the fan and feel it venting out of there.

Also............Google 'MacKeeper'............it doesn't appear to get very good reviews and I don't think I would use it.

macs don't really need all that clean up stuff. it's not like windows where all the programs are interconnected in the registry. the registry gets cluttered/corrupted and things slow down or stop working.

most mac apps (if not all) are separate. that's why you can uninstall them just by dumping them in the trash. little is left. a few preference files maybe.

i occasionally run Clean My Mac, but only really to free up disc space, and 'cos i got it free.

I think it would come back with the 'buy me now or else' option on a brand new machine...

They do run hot as other have said but I think its part of the design to use the case as a heat sink.

I run ClamXav (free) every now and then out of curiosity but I've yet to find anything dodgy on any of our 4 macs and thats with plenty of torrent downloads going on.

Macbooks do run hot. We've got 2 and they both get uncomfortable if you work with one on your lap.

I did bring this up on a Mac forum just after I got the first MB 6 years ago and everyone agreed and reckoned there was nothing to worry about.

I've run Onyx once or twice but generally leave the Mac alone (unlike the feckin PC which is going wrong again.... )

Buz, do you have an SSD in your Macbook? the rainbow spinning wheel issue, is known to happen some macbooks with SSDs

Search google for "macbook ssd spinning wheel"

Mehul
