This is probably a real Numpty question... but how do I set up multiple mail acounts on the Mac? I know it's probably realy obvious, but I just can't see it... :o

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks Ian... I knew how to get at the account info but couldn't, for the life of me, remember how to add another account (rather than edit the existing one).

The answer, of course, is "To create a new account, click the plus sign (+) button in the bottom-left corner of the window" :blast :blast :blast :blast

Too subtle, by far!

I'm a recent convert from the world of Mr Gates - mighty glad to have made the switch, but sometimes get caught out by the simplest things! :o

Thanks for your help :thumb2

No probs. Been nearly clean from windows for 18 months now.

Backup uses the same + / - interface and I've sat there before, wondering how to add some folder.

Dont know if this is the answer

When you click to compose a new message using the 'new' button a compose new mail dialog box opens. Right next to the subject field is a little icon that looks like an envelope with a down arrow on it. Click this and you will see a drop down appear with an option to add a 'reply - to' line in the address section of your compose new email dialog box.

If this is not what you really wanted - let me know and Ill research it further for you.

Forgot to mention

Sorry I forgot to mention:

You could always type 'mailto:' (including the colon) immediately followed by the email address you want people to reply to. This will give the receiver a nice little link in their email which will automatically open up their email client's send new mail dialog box and have it ready addressed to that email address.

ie:

mailto:[email protected]

Thats pretty cool too.

Regards.

That's the puppy!

Thanks macpants!

(any clever ways of setting a default for this or do I need to do it for each mail?)

Should stay.

Once you elect to have the 'reply to' field showing in your mail dialog - Im fairly sure the box itself remains.

Why do you want the reply to go somewhere other than the sending address?

Anyway, If you go to address book and create a profile in there for yourself and enter the relevant email in the email field. When you start entering your name in the 'send to' field it will auto fill in.

Hope this helps. I have had a Mac for nearly 18 years so I am not too bad on the queries. Glad to help.

Regards

Why do you want the reply to go somewhere other than the sending address?

Because I have registered a domain which has a free email re-direct. This means I am not tied into an ISP and can change who hosts my email without having to let everyone who has my email address know I've changed. To them it's invisible, they continue sending to my domain and it forwards it wherever I want. It's also useful when travelling as I can forward it to one of my webmail accounts....

It's cheaper than actually having the domain hosted (about £6 for two years)

Thanks for the help though - :thumb

The + is used in virtually all Mac-made programs when adding entries, references, bookmarks etc. Very handy when making the switch to Mac and trying to get the hang of things.
