Just been quoted £95 to supply 256 meg of ram to go in my Ibook....

What should I be buying and where from????

Yes, PC2100. You may shop it from regular PC shop cheaply, BUT i recommend to buy quality memory only - a bit more expensive, but not much!

And good choice adding memeory btw - mac is a real ram eater on intense computing.

Ditto Crucial. Never had a problem in about 6 purchases from them. The memory finder wizard on the site will tell you exactly what you need.
