Now that I have this working, another question. Is it normal for Windozzz (XP Pro) to run at a snail's pace in this? Or have I shagged it all up somewhere along the line?

Jep, just drag the Windowza CD into your mac's cd-rom, put VPC preferences to boot up from CD and install the Windblower XPanded software for VPC (it creates a image fail for virtual HD) and all works :thumb

It all works, just s-l-o-w-l-y.

I find it fine for MapSource. Hopefully won't need it if Garmin deliver the Mac version this year.

Windows 2000 might be a bit quicker, or NT, or even 98/ME if you don't need USB.

Allocate at least 128MB of RAM to your virtual machine, more if you can spare it or if you're using an app that needs lots of memory.

Aaah - cheers. Haven't played around with settings yet - will have a toy and see what I can improve.

Eyes down for a "Honey I shagged up the Mac" post a bit later tonight...

Bigtwin,
How did you get on? Seriously thinking about loading my BWM Navigator software onto my MAC via virtual PC so at least I can do some route planning from the comfort of my err.. armchair, but from what i can gather it might be a waste of time due to the slowness of it all...

Need to get to grips with my GPS before a French trip in April, and sitting infront of my old PC doesn't fill me with the teeniest bit of excitement

Basically useless. Everything runs at an absolute snail's pace, if it runs at all. Ended up using a cheap laptop to do that kind of stuff on.

Might be better on a super-dooper bells and whistles dual processor etc Mac, but hopeless on mine.

:(

It's a kind of quality filter. If it don't get made for Mac, it's crap.

Yep, well sayed, in my over many years as a computer support worker (including 6 years as a Windows nutter) i say it's very true with very few exceptions.

About VPC not running good - what version you've got? 6 or 7? Both of them not good optimized and they don't use 2 processors, it doesn't use any smart calculation technologies (AltiVec etc), just depends on raw megaherz like stupid softwares mostly do (=shite optimization). But indeed 7 runs better than 6, also on VPC preferences add more memory and put the CPU usage to maximum when active.

Indeed, if you have something critical software that needs a lot of CPU resource, better to get some cheapo PC. But expect a lot of problems with it indeed.

Cheers, Margus :beerjug:

Why would you want to turn a Mac into a pC. Software issues aside.

That's like taking an 1150GS and making it look & run like a Vstrom. :D :D

I'm on 7.0.1.

All the Doze stuff does run much better on my recond laptop (£200!). The rest of what you said is a complete mystery to me!

Been on a MAC for six months. Only thing that drives me mad is the lack of mapping software (esp mapsource) available - and having top wrestle the doze laptop from the teenumptys when I need to plan a quality foolproof route (ifan - :dabone )

yeah - and the lazy gits at Roadangel haven't got their asses in gear, despite saying 'coming early 06" when I brought it middle of last year.
