Hey,

my home pc has recently expired and I am on the lookout for a replacement.

I am considering going for a new Mac (desktop, not laptop) but think the new slimline models don't have a built in DVD/cd drive.

do any of you guys know if the Mac comes with a portable drive?

I am thinking of how I could load my mapsource software etc.

Any thought and comments would be much appreciated.

Maplins for a Samsung usb DVD-writer. Job done, if you need SW off cd loading. However you'd need mac SW not the old windows code you have, so its a base camp download really.

Mac do one for you at £65. I've been a huge convert to the mac world in the last year and to be honest I'd pay the £65 for the convenience and it will work straight out of the box.

My Macbook pro has ai inbuilt DVD, which I am using less and less and considering eventually removing it and replacing with a second hard drive.

I've got one of these for my Macbook Air. It's a great wee piece of kit and works as well as you'd expect from an Apple product.

Mapsource will only work on a windows platform. Unless you install a dual boot or install parallels then your restricted to Base Camp, which imho is shite, I really struggle with it so still have mapscource on an old laptop.

Not sure if you already have a MacBook. If so, you can use that (as long as it's on the same network) as a remote disc drive.
