Hi Guys,

Thanks for accepting me onto the forum.

I picked up my first ever GS last Wednesday and to say I'm impressed with it would be an understatement...

I traded in my 54 plate Honda St1300 Pan European and bought a 2017 Triple Black.

I want (need) to attach various things electrical to the bike and I know the canbus requires care in usage. To that end, I've pretty much decided upon the PDM60 as a method of distribution...

i) a heated vest/gloves (to keep the long haired Admiral happy
ii) an iPhone hook up (I already have the block and lead - made by "twisty ride" - from my last bike, a Honda ST1300)
iv) another power outlet for running an electric inflator pump
v) a safety "dash-cam" system ("Innovv K1")
vi) Spare

QUESTIONS;
a) I understand that the PDM60 requires a "trigger wire".
b) Who has connected where to which wire on the bike as a trigger?
c) Where have you sighted your PDM60?
d) Has anyone else fitted an Innovv camera system and if so, where did you site the recorder unit?

Thanks in advance

Hiya
Good luck with the placement of the PDM module, I was going to fit my Fuzeblock (slightly larger)under the seat but there is naff all room there.

Depending on what additional factory packs you have, keyless etc, you may be able to pop it under the rear seat.

As for a switched wire to tap into, I asked a tech to show me when I picked the bike up.

He suggested, pull the plug above the battery, the one with four red wires, and this will expose two blade fuses. Tap into one of the wires leading to the 7.5 fuse.
the earht can be taken from one of the seat adjuster bolts onto the frame.

The tech guy did say that he was not sure how many farkles this would take befriend re the Canbus threw a tantrum.
At the mo I'm only running a bullet cam from here and have no canbus probs at the mo. It doesnt have a separate recorder. I'll run a phone charger lead next and just add incremently.

I suspect that heated items will be too heavy a draw??

Perhaps a tool tube or cymarc tool box is the answer

Thanks.
Factory packs... All of them. No, not a lot of room under the seat - will have to get a tape measure out or sling it off of the frame between battery box and rear wheel somewhere maybe. I'd HOPE it was farkle friendly as Nippy Normans are selling them? I have ordered the Touratech toolbox - Cymarc isn't waterproof - though I'm not sure about the Touratech one either and I'm fairly sure that running wires through any of the tool boxes available a) stops them having tools thrown into them & b) will allow water in. :-(

I've used a tool tube to house a PMR with power leads exiting through a grommet sealed with silicone. For the aerial lead I used a 2 piece plastic screw fitting.

The PDM unit is sealed and waterproof.

I got mine under the rear seat; others have chosen to put it in the void under the rear rack..meaning you have to take of the rear grab handles etc, not that much of an issue.
If you put it under the rear seat you will need to extend the power cable... not an issue if you use the right size cable/connector.

I used the rear light as the trigger.

There is a load of info on wiring in a PDM 60 here and on AdvRider... it will easily cope with all your needs. Do a bit of research and its not at all difficult. Hours of fun!

PS Welcome!

Phil, I have same bike and have pdm60. It is very easy to locate and to attach to trigger wire source. If you need any help at all let me know on this post and I will be happy to assist. Ian

I have the INNOVV K1 setup on my bike, I recently moved the recorder from under the seat to the top box. Makes it much easier to access the unit. Did have to drill a couple of holes in the bottom of the top box for the power and camera leads.

Trying to gain contact...

Hello mate - Yes, would appreciate some advice. Have looked to try and find a way of contacting you on here without success. Can you mail me? [email protected]

Cheers

No need to worry about the CanBus, if wired correctly this will only be a trigger, the current drawn will be negligible and have no effect.
I had an additional accessory socket fitted under the seat, I took the trigger from this.

Take the positive feed for the PDM60 from the battery post to the right of the battery. However, do not pay any attention to the PDM60 instructions about a fuse not being required in this main feed, put a fuse in the circuit as close to the battery post as possible. The size of the fuse will be dependant on the gauge of wire you use. To use no fuse at all will result in disaster if the main feed to the PDM60 should ever short to the frame.

For the negative feed to the PDM60 I would recommend taking this direct from the negative terminal of the battery.

Hi,

Just wondering how you got on with fitting this. I have 2017 GSA and want to fit a Fuxeblock unit so am very interested in how it worked out for you in the end.

I swapped my fuzeblock for a PDM60. Both units are very easy to install.

Phil, have you managed to fit your pdm 60 and attach your accessories ?

I DID indeed fit the PDM and ran some accessories... but after a while I realised that they were right and the Hex was more what I needed. I wanted to fit some additional lights/horn and to do this, even with the PDM, it would have been complicated and long winded. I would have to also fit relays and switches.

I should have listened.

Whilst the PDM IS good & it does allow you “fused” supplies (more than even I would have needed) it isn’t perhaps the better solution for the GSA.

I’m luck in that my sister is currently serving in Washington DC and she was willing to allow me to have a Hex EZCan sent to her. She then forwarded it to me through a postal medium available to her (read that any way you want!)

I stripped out the PDM and sold it on here and over the next couple of days, fitted the Hex. This then allowed me to (relatively easily) fit; a Denali Split Sound Bomb, extra driving LED lights, my camera system, dedicated power supply for comms (phone &/or iCom Radio) and additional rear lights. No switches required, and no relays!

There’s a plethora of info on here about what/how to fit where but if you want you can PM me and I’ll gladly give you the skinny on it. I’m about to start a heavy run of ambulance shifts, so don’t hang your heart on an immediate reply - I write what I can, when I can.

Cheers guys

Phill
