For my 1200 GSA I purchased the 1250 GSA plastic centre stand protector for the Rallye model from BMW (IIRC it wasn't that expensive). Painted the stand prior to fitting (with nylon ties), no further issues whatsoever.

Instruction says do 3 / 4 coats 15 minutes drying time between
I did 4 coats or maybe 5 in one day leaving an hour between but it was touch dry as quick as it says
Left it overnight before refitting the sidestand
Although not in direct line for stones like the centrestand, it has stood up well to use over 7 months and remains unmarked
Thanks for that. This'll be the way I go, sounds ideal.
What's 'lizard skin'? Sounds interesting!I had mine powder coated a couple of years ago and put a lizzard skin on the cross bar and it's still like new.
You’d think they’d work out that if they have to replace them under warranty it might be better if they put a stone-chip-resistant cover on…

Sent my stand to Cymarc to be altered, can now be locked upright, then they powder coat.
