Hi folks,

Picking my new bike up tomorrow! Does anyone have any tips; do's and don'ts for new GS owners?

I've got gallons of Scottoiler F365 and tins of GT85 ready.
Anything else I should consider?

Thanks in advance :beerjug:

If I was rich I would buy two, one to ride and get scruffy, the other to look at and sit on in the garage. Nothing like the feeling of taking delivery of a new bike. Getting a new car is OK but its the smell you notice most, With a bike its the all over feel good factor.
Enjoy.

new bike

loving your work my friend :thumb2

I picked my new (to me) F800 on Thursday. took it out for a couple of hours last night (wood head/snake circular via Glossop) and loved every minute of it :drool

funny story here. my brother, a GSA rider, thought I had taken leave of my senses when I told him I was trading in my GSA for an 800. Well I was just pottering around in the garage earlier today when I spotted my bro pulling into my driveway riding a F800 demo bike.

With a knowing smirk on my smug face I enquired as to what he made of the bright orange machine. Very nice, was the reply. "I am just going to take it for a little bit of off roaring now" he said and off he went. within 2 hours I received the text confirming that the deal had been done and he picks his new F800GS up next Thursday. :JB

I’m confused? Sorry I do more reading than writing as you can tell by my post count or possible coz I’m colour blind, but isn’t he Subscribed or are you not truly “subscribed” until you get into the hundreds, lol..P.S what colour am I??? I'm not use to being an outsider!, I so cold lol :aidan

Just remembered three things,
When sitting on the bike you can see a little rubber L shaped breather on the left hand headlamp. This can fall off, remove it and put a spot of super glue on the lamp and push the breather back on.
The rear chain adjusters can seize in the swing arm. Put a bit of copper grease on them, wind them fully in to lubricate the threads, then adjust them back to normal. Do this every few months for easy chain adjustment.
Check the headlamp mounting bolts every few weeks. Mine have come loose on both sides, one fell out. BMW may have fixed this now as I noticed new bikes have a steel insert in the mounting bracket.

If you do nothing else get a rear hugger to stop the crap covering the shock and everything else, oh and a fender extender for the same reason.:thumb2

Yes he is now :thumb2 :D

it says subscribed Tosser when you are subscribed and a thumbs up with BMW badge smilie which happens when you pay and become subscribed. :D

Your kinda blue but dark blue ish same as me, but put your curser on it and it goes Red :blast

but put your curser on the red ones and they stay the same. except the under line which goes the other colour to what it is! :blast :D

your not outside your inside, but it leaves more room for people on the edge :D

Oi! I can read this you know!! :P

I'm happy to subscribe now I'm a GS owner! :cool

I've already fitted a Pyramid Plastics' fenda extenda on the front and Mudsling on the rear. Both really easy to fit.
The Mudsling is just 2 screws and 2 tie wraps. It isn't a hugger as such but totally shields the shock from the rear tyre.

Try not to do this
