Is there anywhere with maintenance tasks described? Like Steptoe has done for oilheads. I have tried searching, but like my searching on google, I seem to ask the wrong questions and get nothing back. I don't really know how to do this searching thing, unless leafing through a book, the old fashioned way!

Motorcycletech.info. A website created by ‘Snowbum’ Probably all you’ll need to know about airheads.

Wow, thank you very much. I have the maintenance manual printed out for Tyco, but wasn't sure if there was a step-by-step on here. The manual is for people who 'know what they are doing', not returnees who haven't done it for 15 years. I am out of practice, I did the oilhead 1150, but wasn't sure if there were any idiosyncrasies for the airhead valves and I seem to remember having to put moly grease on some part of the drive line and white VW CV joint grease somewhere, I still have a tin (I can't remember what it is called) and the moly grease, but I can't remember what they were for now.

Have a look at Boxer 2 valve on you tube, William does some great tutorials.

I have just discovered him, thank you. I have really only just found out you can search for things on you tube, I had only seen things people posted before. I didn't realise there was so much on it - i thought it was for people showing their bum and dogs chasing a ball type stuff - oh and old music films!

Check out Moto Phoenix on Utube , by watching him gave me the confidence to tackle lots of stuff on my r100gs,

Thank you.

Can anyone tell me what were the splines I used to lube with the moly grease? Was it where you take the wheel off? That was on my 100RS and 100CS - but it was so long ago I can only vaguely remember bits of it. And the Optimol paste was for something too - exhaust threads?

+1 got youtube.

Everyone has their own learning styles and preferences, but for me, watching and listening to someone doing a task is really hard to beat.

Thank you.

They all need lube on the splines between gearbox and engine, I think some just move the gearbox back a bit to do it ,on my R100GS I remove the gearbox and also remove the final drive to lube the driveshaft splines. I don't think the monolayer bikes needed lube on driveshaft splines as they are in oil but I might be wrong.

WHAT? My GS is a 1988 R80GS, I have never had an 1100. Totally confused by your reply.

Sorry about putting my post in the wrong opening, I would justify it by saying it was a perfect example of an iPad and too much beer 🍻 :homer
