The bags are fine. The wasted space doesn't really matter I guess because the bag's flexible.

As it happens, I have a spare pair in mint condition...

Get some high strength industrial velcro and use the space to stick a small bag of tools, puncture repair kit etc, be better than a spare pair of socks in the event of a breakdown
