many thanks guys - new bmw lc

had fly by wire throttle on 4 cars, no problem.

i have had snapped throttle cables in the past though :augie

I have had cables snap too, but it is an easy fix, the more sensors that are fitted, whether it is to cars or bikes the more difficult they become to fix. Ok once you diagnose which sensor has failed then it is usually easy to swap out, but the hard part is diagnosing "exactly" which sensor as gone US, as so much engine management seems to involve more than one sensor.

that's the sort of argument that was put forward when electronic ignition started replacing points.

anyway, better get used to it as i would have thought all vehicles will have it soon.

True on both counts, but it is progress I would happily live with out. Maybe I have spent too long on old Guzzis with carbs and points. :D

Sooooo.......two rads, one under each side bit here??

Not exactly well protected.

Oh silly me, the design for crash bars would have been sold to Touratwat ages ago......they will be out for sale next week KERCHIIIING :blast

And those cylinder things stick out in the open air:rolleyes:

Want one very badly.

Service intervals, 16K kms please!

PROs:

LED lights all round.
Rear shock is now slightly angled, improved comfort.
Dynamic Suspension.
Cruise control.
eGas - sounds interesting.
Has the paralever hole been relocated higher up the shaft?
The paralever angle is improved.
Alternator cover is flush.
Wheel mean you now use ANY air pump's line with ease.
Usable windscreen, now for the ADV bigger screen.
More adjustable seat.
Flat rocker/engine covers, no raised fake fins.

CONs:
Jap style switchgear.
I can't afford one.
Beak looks too long in the pics.

Probably best to wait for the ADV release, so the initial blips are resolved and the extra ADV parts are available, LED AUX lights etc.

NEW WAYS FOR MORE POWER.
In contrast to all of the previous BMW Motorrad opposed twin engines, the flow of air through the engine of the new R 1200 GS is vertical. The decisive advantage lies in the flexible layout of the intake ducts. Independently of the camshaft timing, the injection valve is arranged to direct the fuel directly in front of the intake valves for the optimal mixture with oxygen.

The air in the engine of the new R 1200 GS is supplied through a bypass (turbulence system), optimising the combustion of the air/fuel mixture and eliminating the need for complex twin spark ignition. This enhanced relationship between the combustion process and ignition angle helps to exploit the full torque potential,

So whilst Ducati are moving from single plug to twin plugs, and a re-aligned injector to spray fuel onto the inlet valve in the 2013 Multistrada, BMW are moving from twin-plugs to one, and injecting in front of the inlet valves in the 2013 GS :nenau

Like the vertical split to the crankcases and the wet clutch with its long pushrod. Reminds me of all the old Brit bikes I've owned :D. Hope it doesn't drip oil in the same way.

Dirt bikes seem to get away with it ok :nenau

Anyway, the GS stopped being an off road bike long ago :P

Is that the new HP3e version:blast:rolleyes:

I'd like to see one in the flesh:thumb2

I'm not sure I would like to see one in the flesh just yet, I have no plans to change my bike until 2014 at the earliest but I like the look of this bike........wait for the Adventure ;)

I blame MCN for the conformist indicator switch (wankers....) :tears

No doubt you've seen this, some nice pics ;

The spikey beak thingy looks dangerous, you have have someone's eye out with that!!

I like the way they designed handles either side of the head like to help you drag it along or tow it when it breaks down :D

.......or perhaps air ducts for the rads :nenau

Andres

Looks like the air intake is actually a lot higher:
